!llmind x Skyzoo - Frisbees

It's downright silly how underrated Skyzoo is.
!llmind x Skyzoo collabo album, Live From the Tape Deck, Oct. 5.

Leatherette - Blad

Letherette – Blad by Hypetrak

What's a Leatherette? I don't know.
But I do know that I wish I could rap sufficiently enough to attack this track.

What a day.
I'm gonna need a bigger hard-drive for all this shit.

Kid CuDi - Mojo So Dope

See...this song is exactly why CuDi is so frustrating to me.
This track is SO close to being great, but CuDi is killing himself with the "I was a high school loser" pity party and Revenge of the Nerds former outcast aggression. Just get over it and record, damn. Is he really going to be talking the same shit for the 2nd album?

LBCK - Start

Long Beach City Kids, eh?
Well, alright!
I have no idea who they are, but this shit bangs like a sum'bitch, so bravo.

UPDATE: Look what I found...
Latest tracks by LBCK

All their shit, sounds crazy!
Take note that track 2 is a 24min live mix.
Oh, man...I have a new group to obsess over for the weekend. Love it!!!

Mayer Hawthorne - I Need You

Mayer Hawthorne - I Need You by stonesthrow

Lots of good music showing up this morning, huh?

I think this song is just a one-off, but tit dope anyway. It's a Nottz produced cover of an Otis Leavill jam from '69 (the year of looooove)

Central Services (El-P x Camu Tao): Forever Frozen In Time

Central Services (El-P x Camu Tao) – Forever Frozen In Television Time (FreEP) by Hypetrak

This is MAGIC.

Recorded back in 2005, this project was never released, but is finally seeing the light of day in conjunction with the release of Camu Tao's posthumous* debut, King of Hearts.

I assume not many of you are familiar with Camu, or El-P fot that matter. As a Cardboard City/Weathermen junkie...take my word for it. You want this. You will love this. It could be one of those albums that really changes your perspective on music here on out. Don't sleep!

King of Hearts

* Phonetically speaking, isn't "posthumous" a beautiful word, considering its definition?

LCD Soundsystem - I Can Change (Stereogamus Remix)

LCD Soundsystem - I Can Change (Stereogamous Remix) by theinsound

Not bad, not bad.

Chromeo - Don't Turn the Lights On

Viva Chromeo!!!
May you be prosperous and your special brand of revisionist 80's R&B go on forever!
But WHY didn't this album come out in time for the summer?! I can't jam Chromeo properly in a friggin' winter coat. Shit.

Royce Da 5'9" ft. Joe Budden - My Own Planet (Remix)

The origi version of this has been around for a little while.
Now we get it with a Budden verse. Victory. Have some.

Wale - The Eyes of the Tiger

If Tiger Woods could spit . . .

The subject matter might be a little dated, but this is still dope. Have some.
And this is exactly the kind of beat that we all want to hear Wale on! FINALLY! Other good news: More About Nothing, the sequel to the outstanding Mixtape About Nothing that gave Wale his start, is due out on Aug. 3. Here's hoping Wale found Best Kept Secret's phone # and did what was necessary.

Mac Miller - Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza

Mid-90's as f**k.
...that's a good thing.

I swear I posted something from this kid before, but I can't find it. D'oh well.
He's got a mixtape coming out on Aug. 13, I might have to check that out.

STS: Sole Music E.P.

Brown Babies by STS

I'm becoming a bigger fan of STS with every song (and he's on my current favorite jam), so I gotta get ahold* of this newness.

* Is "ahold" even a word?

The Roots ft. John Legend - The Fire

Very cinematic.
Kinda surprised that this one got the single/video treatment.

How I Got Over

Eels - Spectacular Girl

Yup, that's pretty women in a nutshell.

Holy Ghost! ft. Caroline Polachek - I Know, I Hear

Yeah! This is my JAM for the next 20min!
This really makes me miss Daft Punk. Not that "I miss Daft Punk" isn't already a daily thought. But this makes me miss Daft Punk.

Jamaica - Short and Entertaining

Why is it that the French are so good at this sort of thing?!
If you remember, Jamaica is the pop band produced by Xavier from Justice.
For the sake of my own entertainment, I need these guys to start beef with Phoenix.

Their other song, "I Think I Like U 2"

He Am Legend.

Well . . .its just the way the game works.
For every one coming in, one must go out. This time, it happens to be MetroStar / Red Bulls LEGEND, John Wolyniec, a.k.a. "Staten Island Maradona", or as I always called him, "Uncle Johnny" because his hair made him look about 20yrs older than he actually is (33).

Check out the great tribute by the Keeper of all Metro-Bull Knowledge, MetroFanatic.

tabbi bonney - Nuthin But a Hero

Tabi Bonney is on that list or artists that I fell like the internet has told me that I'm supposed to like, but hasn't really caught on with me yet. This one, however, I really like.

Even if fixed gear bikes make me want to throw full soda cans at their riders.

Fresh Daily - Thanx

Thanx (Fresh Daily) from Nicolas Heller on Vimeo.

Not sure how I feel about the song as a whole, but the track itself is crazy.
...and the video's punchline is pretty funny.

St. Joe Louis: 30,000ft. High and Rising

30,000 f Chord Cordero by StJoeLouis

This is a special one. Very happy to pass this along...
If you rocked with Tribe and De La Soul back in the day*, or you're a fan of Little Brother and Tanya Morgan now...St. Joe Louis is exactly what you need.

In case you don't remember, I put y'all up on the group's EP, Almost There, a while back. Now their full album, 30,000ft. High and Rising is ready for your consumption. Get up on it over here.

* I'm obligated to punch myself in the face for using the phrase "back in the day" in a blog post.

The ILLZ - ILLYTAL

ILLYTAL (Produced by ILL Tal) by The ILLZ

New Jersey.

Obligatory Henry Post

Really don't know what to say...
Great night. It was a friendly, so I couldn't care any less what the scoreline was.

Henry made it very clear that he's not from the same planet as the rest of his teammates. Maybe I've been watching too much American soccer in person (impossible), but the subtle magic of Henry's passes, positioning and touch on the ball were almost freakish to watch. It felt like we were cheating by having him on the field. I can't even begin to imagine what that man is going to be able to do with a healthy Juan Pablo Angel lined up next to him.

BUT...I think the aspect of Henry's addition that's going to be most overlooked is him impact on the performance of those around him. Joel Lindpere has arguably been the 2nd best player on the team all season...but last night, he was All-Star good. You could literally see the extra determination on his face to make the right pass or fight to retain possession. Mac Kandji looked like the the soccer version of an And1 Mixtape that we've all been waiting to see full-time for nearly two years. I guess he figured that if Henry is bringing a spotlight, he might as well get himself a piece too.

I know I'm getting WAY ahead of myself...but after just 45min with him on MY team...in a friendly...I'm fully in "this is our year" mode. And I love/hate it. With or without the mystery 3rd DP, the Red Bulls have a chance to do some serious damage to league opponents this year, and I can't wait to be there for every moment of it.

Maximum Balloon ft. Theophilus London - Groove Me

Man, I an extra ready for this album (Aug 24).
However...I am very disappointed that this song is in no way related to the to the 1988 Guy classic of the same name. Check it out here anyway.

Side note: I really should seek therapy about my late '80's R&B problem. It's not healthy.

Joe Budden - Short Summer

That's right. 9min.
Been a while (by his standards) since we had some new Budden music.

Ski Beatz ft. Mos Def - Cream of the Planet

This is from the Ski Beatz album that everyone (rap nerds) was talking about a few months ago...but it never came out. Supposedly in Sept. now. We shall see.

Controversial moment: Any one else notice that everything Mos has recorded in the last 2-3 years has sounded exactly the same lyrically/thematically? Just putting it out there.

Kele - Everything You Wanted

Not my favorite jam from The Boxer, but whatevs.
I'm down with Kele.

Gonna take a wild guess and say this song was a bit auto-biographical.

The Boxer

Raw Nature - It's Crazy

New Jersey. Salute.
Sampler pack from the Raw Nature crew.
These were the dudes that took your bag of chips at lunch in high school.

STS - Oniomania

Not a subject matter that usually gets my attention...let alone my bandwith...
but give STS credit for making a song about needless consumption without it being annoying.
Have some.

2010 Afro-Punk Festival BMX Competition

2010 Afro-Punk BMX Comp from Zack Schwartz on Vimeo.

Highlights from the event of a few weekends ago.
Once again...I wasn't there.

Zane One - Zane One (L.A. Woman)

Aww, snap.

Pharrell Attempts to Anger Me

Oh! Great! So the new N.E.R.D. album is the musical equivalent of a chick flick flick.
Awesome. That's just what I wanted. Dammit.

After the complete disaster of M.I.A.'s new...thing...I need this shit to be dope, or my 2010 is SHOT musically. Ugh.

The singles already made Nothing sound like it was made for 20yr old girls, but that you for confirming it, Pharrell. Thanks a heap.

CONSPIRACY THEORY: Your Team Is F**ked!

"I got 99 problems, but the Crew ain't one"

FACT: The Don isn't selling Landon Donovan before January.
ASSUMPTIONS: Rafa Marquez will be in NY, and Ronaldinho in LA by the end of the month.

Based on the above, If I were a Columbus Crew (and to a lesser extent, Real Salt Lake) fan...I'd be pissing myself right now. Not because of the fact that by this time next moth, you'll (at best) be the 3rd best team in the league, but because there's no way in Hell that Don Garber is going to let you play in the MLS Cup Final. No way. No chance. No how.

For real. I cannot confirm this, but my sources inside the MLS offices have told me that Don Garber is presently sacrificing virgins to Satan in hopes of guaranteeing a Galaxy v. Red Bulls Final. It would be the single biggest event the league has ever seen. Landon Donovan, Edson Buddle, Ronaldinho and Bruce Arena on one side...Juan Pablo Angel, Thierry Henry and Rafa Marquez on the other. I can assure you, that if it came to it, The Don would have Schellotto shot at halftime of the Eastern Conference Finals if necessary to make this happen.
You boys in CowTown are screwed! It won't matter how good you are. Your team is the innocent lamb set for slaughter. And I love it!

Strange referee decisions, funny allocations, salary cap rule bending...all that good shit. In favor of NY and LA for the rest of the season. The 2010 playoffs are gonna be officiated like a WWE pay-per-view event (or the NBA) . . .and its the right way to go.

Yes...easy for me to say when the team I have 2 season tix for stands to benefit. But be honest. Isn't playing the game with a bit of...Italian political flair...the right thing to do for the sake of the greater good? Coming off a hugely popular World Cup run, wouldn't it be a shame for MLS to waste such a prime opportunity?

Exactly.

So do it, Don. Lie. Cheat. Hire the Juventus Board of Directors for a how-to session. Do whatever it takes. Make it happen. Give us the star-studded glory match for the Cup that none of us could have even dreamed of 5yrs ago. Give us New York and Los Angeles. By any means necessary.

Laws - Overtime

Cubicles fuckin' SUCK!!!

1982 (Termanology & Statik Selektah) - The Lottery

1982? Hell of a year. Hell of a year.
Ladies, and gentlemen, we have a new DJ x Emcee group. I love those things! 1982 album set for October. And I will have it.

Swedish House Mafia ft. Pharrell

Because I bet every dollar I'm worth (both of them!) that my girl will download this by the end of the week.

Monday, July 19, 2010

Ge-Ology ft. Yukimi Nagano (of Little Dragon) - Blues Alley

This isn't brand new...but I just heard it for the first time.
Besides, I love me some Yukimi and will proceed to post whatever I find with her on it.

Kendrick Lamar ft. Jhene Aiko - Growing Apart

Introspective laid-backery. Have some.
(FYI . . .Jhene Aiko)

Jadakiss - All Falls Down

Vid-jo for Jada's ridiculously East Coast mixtape jam.

J. Cole - Premeditated Murder

This is alot closer to what I want to hear from J. Cole.
Self-produced jam, as well. Have some.

Talking Myself Into Liking Rafa Marquez

As of yesterday, it seems like Marquez to NY is a foregone conclusion, so allow me a bit a public therapy as I come to grips with the whole thing . . .

Don't ask me why, but my favorite position and players in soccer are defensive midfielders. I've never been too much for adoring goal scorers. They're great and all, but nothing gets my respect more than an ankle-shattering tackle, recovering the ball and re-starting the offense with a nice touch pass. To me, the "Makalele role"* is the most difficult one to play on the field, even if it doesn't get all the glory it deserves.

With all that in mind, my hatred for Rafa Marquez is somewhat ironic. He is everything I like about a soccer player...even if he does take it to scumbag extremes from time to time. The obvious problem is that his passport has Mexico written across the front. He's everything thing I would want in a player...on the team I least want to have it. And I hate him for it. Alot.

But in one of those goofy shirts with the the poisonous soda logo on the front?
All bets are off.

I think this signing is the knockout punch for me in the Club v. Country debate. I've switched. For the first time ever, it's pretty clear that my heart has more space in it for my local club than it does for my national team. I'm sitting here at my desk praying to read news that Rafa fuckin' Marquez will finish his career in my second home, Red Bull Arena. That's how badly I want to feel the joy of watching my team lift that damn Cup for the first time.

15 years of waiting will make you do strange things.

So, come on, Marquez, you filthy bastard! Sign the damn paper! LET'S GO!
I'm ready to dance with the Mexican Devil.

* I really like saying "Makalele roll". It sounds like sushi made of escargot or something. And is being Makelele really that hard?

Thursday, July 15, 2010

Yes...you would. Twice.
(I honestly have no idea what a Kate Bosworth is)

Ne-Yo Has Superpowers and Whatnot...

Ne-Yo is gettin his full Michael Jackson on for this album, it seems.
All the videos he's releasing will be a part of an ongoing storyline.

Part 1 is for that "Beautiful Monster" joint I'm not too fond of:

But Part 2 is my JAM, "Champagne Life" (side note: this songs sounds much fuller via good headphones that speakers):

I'm Not Done Yet!!

Weeeeeee want the Cup!!
Gotta have dat Cup!!
Ohhhhhh...weeeeee want the Cup!!!

At this point...FUCK IT...give me Marquez too, that filthy son of a bitch! It's a celebration! Glory is imminent! New Jersey York will be CHAMPIONS!!

Thierry Henry and Juan Pablo Angel are coming to DRY HUMP your favorite team's back line on national television!! No flowers. No candy. Alllllll humping!!!

This signing is SO much sweeter now that we're out of that shitbox in the swamp. Not to mention that the team is already good enough to possibly be in first place by the end of the weekend!

Glooooooooooory Glory Metro fooooooooooooootball!!!

I love the French!!!

All day it Jerry Lewis films and Daft Punk jams!!
I will only eat foods that have them accent marks over the E at the end!!

Who the fuck is David Beckham?!
In fact, go heal that motherfucker up or wheelchair his ass back to LA! I want the Galaxy in the Cup Final! EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!! NY v. LA in the Final: The way the league intended it to be at least a half dozen times by now!

Manifest Destiny!!

David Beckham DEEZ NUTS!!!

Get Microsoft Silverlight

Its amazing how quickly I can forget that I REALLY don't like a player.
As a side note: I need that t-shirt ASAP!

The Frenchist Has Landed

Mikey Rocks (of the Cool Kids) 2-for-1 Sale

Kinda diggin' these:
Bahamas
The Sunshine

Janelle Monae - Cold War (Wondamix)

Apparently, I enjoy JM remixes alot more than the actual jams.
Have some.

Maximum Balloon ft. Aku - Tiger

Now we have an official video.
Can't possibly be as good as the Daisy Lowe version, but let's move on.
Kinda funny-ronic that this Aku fellow sounds alot like TVOTR's Tunde Adebimpe.

Brandon Boyd: The Wild Trapeze

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say I don't have many readers who share in my affinity for Incubus.
BUT...I for one am excited by the prospects of a Brandon Boyd solo album. I didn't even know it was being recorded, but it was actually released today as an iTunes exclusive.

A Boatload of Grum Remixes

Latest tracks by GRUM

I'm not certain, but I don't think Grum is very popular yet. Damn shame, because these remixes are ridiculous. Not sure of the motivation, but this Soundcloud popped up on The Face Books this morning. I will proceed to jam them with gusto for the foreseeable future.

And check out the album while you're at it:

Heartbeats

Red Bulls Ordering Barca Combo Meal?

You know that $6K Carl's Jr. combo meal at the Palms* in Vegas? Well it looks like Red Bull New York might have ordered the soccer equivalent from Barca: One large Henry with a side of Marquez.

...and I'm not sure how I'm supposed to feel about it.

You already know how I feel about The Frenchist, but I've come a LONG way in accepting him as one of my own. I think me and "On-Ree" are cool. For now.

But Rafa Fuckin' Marquez?!?! That's asking ALOT of me as a fan, isn't it? It's almost impossible for me to imagine a world where actually singing songs of praise for Rafa Fuckin' Marquez is a reality. I have a genetic predisposition to wanting this man dead. He's not just a Mexican footballer, he's the Mexican footballer. Everything that we've come to despise about our southern neighbors personified.

This is probably the part of the post where I'm supposed to tangent off into a Club v. Country debate. But those are old, and they'll go on forever, because there is no right answer. I WILL, however say that the Country side is losing even more goround for me, because as much as the idea of cheering for Marquez every week may cause me to vomit now . . .I know that after that first 5-game win streak I will have convinced myself that he's actually Portuguese or something, and forget that he ever played for Mexico.

This game is weird. It's fans are weirder.

*If you're over 24 and even set foot in the Palms at this point, its time for you to re-evaluate your Vegas strategy. They should just call it "Da Palmz by Ed Hardy" at this point and be done with it.

Krondon (of Strong Arm Steady) - Incline

Incline by letskeepgoing

Khrysis on them beats.
What a perfect beat for Krondon. This is heavy.
Its entrance music.

Rick Ross ft. Jay-Z - Free Mason

Now....I'm sure you can assume how i feel about Rick Rawse Ross and everything he's ever recorded....but this isn't about him. It's about the nasty verse that Jay dropped on this thing.

Jesse Boykins III - B4 the Night is Thru

Santos "Our Studio 54" NYC from slick jackson on Vimeo.

Santos PartyHouse, FTMFW!
The only place even remotely resembling a club that I can stomach.

Oh, How the Scummy Have Fallen

Screachin' Beagles or whatever the fuck you're called . . .
Front-runnin' sum'bitches can't even come up to say hello tomorrow??

After a decade of giving us shit about never seeing the top of the table and living in that shithole in the swamp . . .you can't handle a little role reversal?

Now, here you are, sitting with 11pts in 14 games. A stadium that seems to crumble a bit more with every conceded goal. A franchise that no city wants to adopt. Half your "hardcore" fans are wearing Philly blue these days. DC doesn't want you. Baltimore doesn't want you. St. Louis doesn't want you. You better get to San Diego before Chivas does!

And suddenly...the fans are gone. "The best supporters in MLS" are nowhere to be found. From what I hear, the "baddest" supporters groups in the league are having trouble getting enough people to come up to Jersey tomorrow to make a single bus worthwhile. Shit . . .I was in RFK for our game in your house. You weren't. The mighty Eagles and Barra: shouted down in their own house by less than 100 in the upper deck.

I remember when you guys used to matter. But a little rain has fallen in your garden, and you don't want to come out and play any more. Sad, really. Oh well . . .maybe Philly and the SoBs are already the 2nd best on the East Coast. Probably true. But DC, it's pathetic that you gave up your spot with out a fight.

See ya tomorrow.
Come say hi.

OnCue - If I Could Feel

When I saw the title I was hoping that this was the sample.
Nice.

The idea of trying to explain The Wiz to someone who never saw it is funny. Essentially, The Wiz is the Black version of Wizard of Oz. Yup. Set in Harlem, not Kansas. And "If I Could Feel" was the Black Tin Man's song in place of "If I Only Had a Heart" (or whatever it was).

Busta Rhymes ft. T.I., Cam'Ron, Ghostface & DMX - Stop The Party (Remix)

Ehhhhh...why not?

Maximum Balloon ft. Yukimi Nagano - If You Return

Maximum Baloon is the side project of TV On The Radio's Dave Sitek.
Album set for release on Aug. 24. You will buy it.

This new jam features Yukimi Nagano of Little Dragon (remember?).
Other appearances on the album include FF&SS favorites, TVotR, Karen O and Thephilus London. I am officially excited.

OH!! Check out their extra dope previous jam, "Tiger".
Better yet, check out Daisy Lowe dancing to it in her underwear.

DJ's Be Flippin'

Marco Polo, Frank Dukes, Rich Kidd, & MoSS Flip Famous Samples from Real Frequency on Vimeo.

OK...what you have here is 4 Torontonian (I say its a word) producers tasked with the job of taking jams that you're already very familiar with and flippin' 'em in ways you wouldn't expect.

Of course, it was the fact that someone was going to use Al B. Sure's "Night & Day" that made me watch this in the first place. It's one of my 5 all-time favorite jams*, and I will listen to anything that samples it...and dammit, what Marco Polo did with it was just crazy.

* YEAH! I said it!

Jineses - Lonely Toss

Lonely Toss featuring Nelson Estevez and Akira Adel from Jinesis on Vimeo.

I assume this Jinesis chap is a producer of some sort, because there are no lyrics involved here. It's more of a story set to his beat. Creative stuff. And I give him credit for flippin' a "Tender Love" * sample and geting away with it. Not an easy task.

* Is "Tender Love" the slow-jamminest slow jam for you Gen-X folks? Y'all that used to have literal backpack rappers, house parties, relaxed hair and all that shit I'm 7yrs too young to remember. Do you react to that like how people's daddies react to Al Green jams? I bet you do. Don't lie!!! You KNOW you dry-humped in somebody's basement to "Tender Love"!

Reflection Eternal - Ballad of the Black Gold

Reflection Eternal "Ballad of the Black Gold" from Sam Ellison on Vimeo.

The timing of this single and video is somethin', ain't it?

Jay-Z ft. Lil' Wayne - Summer In Brooklyn (Cookin Soul Remix)

And while we're here...you know I had to give you some of this, right?

Asher Roth - Toni Braxton

Seriously...no more albums for Asher Roth.
Only the mixtapes, please.

I have a 20min rant on why he's better on these mixtapes, but you don't care.

The Away Team: Independence Day

Emcee Sean Boog and producer/(sometimes) emcee, Khrysis are The Away Team.
New mixtape dropped over the weekend with appearances by 9th Wonder, Sean Price, Black Milk and a gang of other folks. Have some. Sure to be dope.

Black Milk - How Dare You

When you name your upcoming album Album of the Year, you better come out with some dope shit. Well . . .there you go.

I wish there were more double-duty emcee/producers in Hip-Hop.

St. Joe Louis - Electric Company (J57 Remix)

Pay attention, people.

I told you about SJL's Almost There EP back in April, but I'll give you another warning: Get up on this now, before one of your cornball friends does and you lose the prime opportunity to accumulate maximum cool points*. It looks like the group is going to be releasing a few remixes of the EP's jams, starting with this one by J57 from Brown Bag AllStars.

Have some.

* Side note: I will now start an indie band and call it Maximum Cool Points

The Roots ft. STS & Joanna Newsome - Right On

You got The Roots new album, right? Right. Why wouldn't you?
I think this might be my favorite joint. It never get through my iPhone without getting the repeat treatment at least once. It's not a single or anything...just my jam.

How I Got Over

MED ft. Talib Kweli - Classic

Smoove.
I really can't remember the last time I heard new music from MED. Wow.

Kid CuDi ft. Kanye West - Erase Me

This is gonna be big in high schools.
In my car...not so much.

Janelle Monae ft. B.o.B. & Lupe Fiasco - Tightrope (Wondamix)

I think the world needs Janelle and 3000 to do an album together. Or have a baby or something. Unless they really are the same person, from parallel dimensions and the universe would implode into a black hole if they were ever in contact with each other. Then maybe not.
