Air Sex

HAHAHAHAHA, I just made you watch that.

MySpace Showcase: Iata

Man, I love a good inbox day. It's like Christmas and "Double Soup Tuesday" all rolled into one package . . .and then that package is wrapped in currency . . .and handed to me by a Brazilian with low self-esteem.

Anyway...let's get a bit of electro house up in us, shall we?
Behold: Chicago's Iata

This young man knows how to push computer buttons and make dope shit come out.
Get on it.

MySpace Showcase: Thunderbird Juicebox

If you are not from Baltimore, Chicago or New Jersey...you can stop here. You're not ready.
All others get to clickin' and jam this shit!

MySpace Showcase: Astronauts of Antiquity

A super dull day in music and whatnot, so you know what that means...inbox time!!

First up is NYC, Astronauts of Antiquity:
"Marrying the vibey, seductively ethereal textures of lounge, dub and trance with the timeless verities of great pop and rock songwriting, Astronauts of Antiquity have bridged various musical worlds to create a realm all their own. While their journey has taken them around the globe, on their new album, Rocket Science For Dummies, they have brought it all back home, delivering an album that is seamless and mesmerizing, reflecting a unified expression of their musical vision."

Yes. ^^^That.

P.S. - "Supa Soul" is the jam.

Hardees' Biscuit Holes

::Getting up off the floor::

Dear Xenu,
May I never get so old where this kinds shit isn't ab-crunchingly funny.

Thank you.

"Let's Get Sexy" with Craig Robinson

The only word I can think of to describe this wisdom . . .is "sage".

Kurious - Sittin' In My Car

Yup...definitely efphs with this one.
And for the sake of historic observance...have summa this.

On All These MJ "Tribute" Jams . . .

Yeah . . .still buggin' over it . . .

Just to give you a heads up...
I plan on treating all these Michael Jackson tributes the same way I've been treating the countless J-Dilla tributes of the last few years...with a very cold and skeptical shoulder.

There's gonna be an absolute tidal wave of MC Rooty Poot nobodies putting together opportunistic "tributes" to Mike in the next few weeks. I'm hoping that bloggers, music sites and fans dismiss the lot of 'em.

It's one thing for a DJ to spin some Mike for about an hour and share it with everyone...but some random dude coming out with a mixtape that's supposed to be a "tribute", but feature's his own name in bigger letters than Mike's . . .naaaaaah, son. That gets no love here.

UPDATE: Looks like the dudes over at 2DopeBoyz share the same sentiments. I hope it spreads from there. And that DJ Premier mix they posted is extra dope. It goes alot deeper than most of the stuff you probably got a chance to hear this weekend.

UPDATE #2: Before I forget (again), I should remind you that Rhymefest did an MJ dedication mixtape a while back (while he was ALIIIIVE). If you don't have it already, check out Man In The Mirror.

Method Man & Redman - Mrs. International

I can't stop laughing at Erick Sermon.

Kanye West - Street Lights

Did anyone know that this was coming?

Jay-Z - D.O.A.

Jay-Z - D.O.A. [Death of Auto-Tune - OFFICIAL VIDEO] from Burnocchio Story. on Vimeo.

Ne-Yo - Lady In My Life (BET Awards)

Welcome back, folks.
Hope you blew your speakers out with Mike's best like I did this weekend.

You know, it's not often that I feel the need to give props to BET for anything, but they really did an amazing job switching the focus of the award show on such short notice.

Of all the artists that do Michael Jackson impersonations in their music (Usher, Timberlake, etc), Ne-Yo is by far the best when it comes to the ballads (and can rock the quick stuff too). Glad they got him out there for this cover. If he doesn't record it, it's a shame.

I started this blog on 7/29/08, and somehow, I managed to waste enough of my employer's time and bandwidth to bring this thing to 1000 posts.

This thing is sort of like a crazy old man shouting in the empty room of a crowded house. It's just me here. No other contributors or fellow posters. Just me running my mouth a few times a day. I have no idea who's reading, and to a certain extent, I don't don't even know how many.

But I don't care. I'm having fun.

Anyway . . .all week, I was trying to think up something fresh to do to commemorate my 1000th post. Couldn't come up with anything. Then I sat in my car this afternoon during my lunch break and listened to the Tri-State area pour their hearts out over the loss of Michael Jackson. It was a little rough to hear. The "Rock With You" and "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" songs bring a cautious smile to my face today . . .but when something like "You Are Not Alone" starts . . .man . . .

It's a little hard to grasp. I said this to friends last night, Michael Jackson death is so hard to wrap my head around because it confirms that he was REAL. "Larger than life" is something you hear all the time, but it honestly doesn't do Mike's career any justice. Michael Jackson wasn't a person, he was an entity...a concept...a creation. How does that die? What do you mean "there's no more Michael Jackson"? How are fans supposed to process that?

And that's another thing . . .
You know, we get it. Michael Jackson was FAR from a perfect figure. No one's ignorant to that. But for all the people who are bringing it all up today...what good is it doing? The man's dead. I just hope that all the fans at least get this weekend to celebrate, share memories and enjoy some music with friends and family before they have to be bombarded with all the inevitable freak show stories and programming.

Let me wrap this up...
It's pretty obvious that the best way to mark Post 1000 for me is to honor the most significant individual to bless the music scene in my lifetime. I'm going to shut it down here for the rest of today and the weekend in his honor, because really...who gives a shit what new flash-in-the-pan dude has a new song out today anyway.

Rest In Peace, Michael Jackson

999

. . .

. . .
It's not as if I knew the man or had a personal connection, but for a music and culture obsessed 80's baby, Mike is and was everything.

Rest In Peace to the greatest entertainer any of us will ever know.

Chris Brown - Not My Fault

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
I think someone needs to pour Mr. Brown a fresh bowl.

It's a wrap.

::inhales helium::
All ya gotta do is watch meeeeeeee....didda didda da with my feeeeeeeet

"Where's the 'D.O.A.' Sample From"?

You're a rap nerd like me, and you have trouble sleeping unless you know these things, so consider this Sominex.

::intense eye-squint::

Is Sominex a real product, or something I made up because it sounds like it could really be a brand of sleeping pills? I don't know. But I DO know that it's hot as hell in this office...in case I hadn't mentioned that yet today.

Faux-losophy: The Bat For Lashes Chapter

Bat For Lashes - Daniel (HD) from Peter Pan on Vimeo.

Here's a question (preceded by scene-setting qualifiers):
I happen to find Natasha from Bat For Lashes pleasant to look at for reasons I've yet to come to grips with. She's an interesting chick. I dig the videos, the odd sense of creativity, the whole shebang. However, I find the music mildly entertaining at best and flat out dislike most of it (blogger cred shot again!). Despite this, I click on and watch their shits when they come around.

Question: Does that make me a slut?

Mew - Repeaterbeater

Ahhh, I'm not mad at a little break from Hip-Hop for a minute.

Mew has apparently been very busy naming crazy shit after other crazy shit.
I like this song though. It's as if someone got belligerent at a store that only sells leather jackets, and dared them to make a more "accessible"* song. At least that's how I pictured it. And is it me, or is this the shortest Mew song ever?

* "Accessible" is my new favorite rock critic word. It's like the inverse of "alternative" or "indie". You kinda know what it means in context, but not really. Good times.

P.S. - Seriously, it's really fuckin' hot in here, and I'm starting to lose my mind.

Cookin' Soul - Streets Is Gettin' Hot

So Spain does have ONE thing that doesn't turn my stomach.

Remember this?
Good, because I'm lazy and don't wanna go over it all again.

Anyway, this is jam #2 and feature 400,000 people. Yyyyeah, I'm too lazy for typing all that shit out too. It's hot in this office and I've got the itis somethin' terrible. Read up.

Esau Mwamwaya ft. Theophilus London & Ezra Koeing - Warm Heart Of Africa (Remix)

Is that not the most gangly list of folks' names you've ever seen on one song??

Oh, I can jam the hell out of this.
Mr. London just posted this up on his blog. Am I sleepin'? Was the original already hot in "da skreets" and I just didn't know about it? Ah well.

BTW, Ezra Koeing is the dude from Vampire Weekend. What makes me happiest about this jam is the fact that I can't listen to VW without thinking about Paul Simon, and then WHAM, here's their front man on a jam with and about Africans. The music gods have a sense of humor...and I like it.

D.Julien - Absolute Perfection

"I do the best I can to perfect my jams".
Word.

Pac(ific) Div(ision) - The Mayor

They're mad late with the video...it's still the jam, though (and West Coast as F***, lol).

The Roots - How I Got Over

This was dope.
The house band was the guest for a change.

I like jams like this. It's like my mp3s and my granddaddy's old 45s somehow collided. Good shit. And look at that, Dice Raw on national TV! Best bit: Clearly the audience wasn't filled with James Brown fans, the ol' false ending got 'em every time!

FACT: Yelling "Give it tummeh!!" in a jam makes it 43% better.

Spain, Kiss My Big Black Yankee Ass

Non-Soccer fans, you might find this interesting as well.

This was the perfect storm of amazing for me.

Not only am I beyond fanatic about or National Team, not only was this one of the 5 biggest wins in American soccer history . . .but it was against SPAIN!!!

I still hold an intense, personal level of disgust and anger for Spain after spending my spring break there in 2002 (maybe '03). I've never met such horrible people. Blatantly racist young people, old people looking at me as if I were a science experiment gone wrong, fascist protests in the streets of Madrid...generally the WORST bunch of people I've ever come across in such a short time span.

Fast forward to last night:
The United States of We Have No Business in the Semi-Finals, versus the consensus #1 team in the world...Spain. A country who's fans are known for aiming monkey chants and throwing banana peels at opposing Black players. Yes, Spain. A nation who's former national team coach once referred to France's Thierry Henry (one of this generations greatest) as "that black shit". Yes, Spain. A nation with Formula 1 fans who couldn't stomach the idea of a Black champion, so they showed up in blackface to let Lewis Hamilton know how they really felt. Yes. Spain.

The 2-0 win was beautiful, poetic, and personally gratifying on so many levels. It was vintage Americana. Despite the scoreline, our boys were out-played, out-shot, and generally out-classed on the field . . .but "football is a funny ol' game", and sometimes heart triumphs over skill when it matters.

Even more wonderful was the fact that it was two Black men, both from New Jersey, both former players for my beloved New York club, that sealed America's victory. Livingston, NJ native, son of Haitian immigrants, Josmer "Jozy" Altidore opened the scoring with a powerful and agile turn that Spain's back line couldn't handle. Presumably because they knocked off balance without the soothing sounds of racial chants in their ears. From there, North Brunswick, NJ native and greatest MetroStar ever, Tim Howard shut the door with 8 saves and delivered one of the greatest individual performances by anyone who's ever worn a US crest over their heart.

Obviously, the game was much bigger than my personal issues with a nation that never knew me and individuals who have long since forgotten me...but I can't help but to feel like the US National Team did me a personal favor yesterday (and thank you, Clint Dempsey for putting the game on ice).

Buju Banton ft. Wayne Wonder - I Don't Know Why

Because its been stuck in my head for a solid decade.
Remember when they used to show Reggae Sunsplash on pay-per-view?
Does the site of a baldie Buju freak anyone else out besides me?

Reflection Eternal - Back Again

Talib Kweli + Hi Tek-Reflection Eternal -Back Again-Vid Premiere

I know, there was that other thing at the barber shop, but this is the ACTUAL video.

The Dream - Hit It On The Road

This is SO ig'nant that its dope.
(SHAZOO . . .how's it goin', kid?)

Drake ft. Phonte & Elzhi - Think Good Thoughts

9th Wonder ("Ninf Wunda") on them beats.
Anita Baker on the sample...bravo, 9th.

Apparently, this was on Drake's 2007 mixtape, Comeback Season, minus Elzhi's verse. I do not own said mixtape (blogger blasphemy!!). I'm about Drake'd out these days, so I have no plans to backtrack...but this jam is the jam, so have some.

RedBull New York: If We Don't Laugh, We Cry

FACT: My team sucks.
FACT: My team has the most miserable fanbase in professional sports

However, sometimes that misery can turn into absolute comedy gold.
MetroFanatic message board poster, behindthegoal got the scoop this morning on our beloved club's newest signing:

Red Bull New York Signs Brazilian Striker Ronald Inho
06/24/2009 09:55 AM
Red Bull New York Media Relations

The New York Red Bulls have announced they have come to terms with 47 year old Brazilian striker Ronald Inho.

Inho, although often is mistaken for the more famous world renown player, Ronaldhino, says there is no comparison when it comes to soccer skills: “I suck”, said the 47 year old Brazilian with a smile, "but when I was approached by Mr Agoos and offered the contract, it was simply too much for me to refuse. When Mr. Agoos realized his mistake he tried to back out of the deal and I said 'no way Jose' ".

Agoos did mention that he had high hopes for the Brazilian striker: “We really thought we were getting a great deal, until we realized we had a small error in our scouting. We’re now hoping that Ronald Inho will embrace his new marketing role within the club". Agoos wouldn’t divulge the details of the new top secret marketing campaign but he hinted that it would involve face painting, horns, and a lot of slow motion walking and posing.

Wale x Peter, Bjorn & John - Nothing To Worry About

Sometimes there are songs commissioned by the cosmos themselves, specifically for me to post on this blog. From the new mixtape.

Wale & 9th Wonder: Back To The Feature

A colossal "my bad" on this one.
You know how lazy I am about this stuff on the weekends.

The mixtape we've been teased about for months has finally been released.
Oddly enough, I'm alot more excited about this than I am about Wale's first official album release.

::Infomercial announcer voice::
How's this for a list of guest artists:
Joe Budden, Skyzoo, Joell Ortiz, Talib Kweli, Black Thought, Jean Grae, Royce Da 5'9", Bun B, and MUCH MORE!!

Have some...and I think Monday is gonna be kinda busy around here. Seeme like I have alot to catch up on.

Happy Fathers' Day!

In honor of Fathers' Day, let's rock my Pop's favorite jam of all time...
Strafe - Set It Off

Suddenly my taste in music makes alot more sense, don't it?!

True story: Pops was the captain/player/coach of his company basketball team when I was really little. They used to play their games at the Carteret High gym. To spice up the games, my dad had one of his boys serve as a PA announcer and do player introductions. It was the usual dry stuff, except for my egomaniac dad who has "Set If Off" blasted before he came out onto the court.

More of The Dead Weather, Dammit!

BecauseI am still in awe and amazement at the amount of asses that The Dead Weather kicked on Conan last night, I feel I must bring you some more of their stuff from the upcoming album, Horehound (7/14):

"Are Friends Electric"

"I Cut Like A Buffalo"

"Treat Me Like Your Mother"

Attack Cardio With Vinnie Jones

Combine this with a little motivation from Leroy Smith, and you can be as buff as me.

Simian Mobile Disco - Audacity of Huge

You've already jammed this with your earholes, now jam it with the orbs at the front of your face.

Jay-Z x Wallpaper = D.O.A / 99 Problems

"I got 99 problems, and my pitch ain't one."
Hee hee. I get it.

I efphs widdit.
Have some.

Ruck Down Records

Ok, I know maybe 5% of y'all will get the joke, but this is funny as hell.
Sean Price has taken over Duck Down!

Slaughterhouse ft. M.O.P. - Woodstock

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

The Dead Weather!!!!

"I'd like to grab you by the hair, and sell you back to the devil".

Holy hell, that is the fuckin' JAM!!!
I literally got up, yelled "Goddammit, YEAH!!" and threw my remote across the room last night after this performance. This is friggin' GOLD. If there was any doubt that Jack White was on the finalist list for Baddest Motherfucker Around, let it end right now.

YEAH!!!

MC B-Rubbz

I KNOW I'm not the only one that remembers this (and can still recite it verbatim).

As Tall As Lions - Circles

New jammie from the upcoming album, You Can't Take It With You (Aug. 18)
Hit it on Da Space.

CRS, Anyone?!

Ummmmm . . .
What happened?!

Since we're here already...

Fever Ray - Triangle Walk

If Fever Ray isn't freshness personified, than I don't know what is. Karin Dreijer seems to be just the right kind of crazy, and I, for one, am pickin' up what she's puttin' down.

In case you don't remember their last 2 vids, let's refresh:
"When I Grow Up" (Video of the Year, hands down. Ended the competition in Feb.)
"If I Had A Heart" (Which I never posted for some reason)

Taylor Swift x T-Pain - Thug Story

I know I'm just one of 463,000 places that will post this today.
Luckily, I'm one of the dozen or so with a sense of humor.
This is some funny shit.

And have a look around and see how seriously the blogosphere takes itself with this one.Equally funny.

"I'm not a blogger" is the new "I'm not a rapper".
Why so serious?!

Kenny Mayne v. Scoop Jackson

HA!!

The Japanese Are Armed!

YOU SEE THAT SHIT?!?
It's not a toy...it's not a camera trick...
It's a 50-fuckin-9-fuckin-foot-fuckin-Gundam in Tokyo!!

Yeah, they'll lie to you and tell you some shit about how it's just an art exhibition or some shit.
Don't believe it. That sum'bitch is armed and operational. I know people who know things.

See more pics @ Pink Tentacle.

ALL HAIL JOHN CONNOR!!!

White Denim - I Start To Run

Other than the repeated "I start to run", I have no idea what's being said in this song...at all.
But when has that ever stopped me before?

I don't know a damn thing about White Demim (in any sense of the words), so allow me a few minutes.

::blogger time warp::

Not too shabby. Kinda like hipster hillbillies.
Hill Williams, if I may. Very Austin, TX (go figure).

Yak Ballz - Gas Galaxy

Yak has unleashed the title track to his upcoming EP.
Not sure about the release date.
Get you some.

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

Beirut - The Concubine

I dig it.

Cookin Soul x Nah Right: 1:00 AM And Rising

This is one of those thing that can't possibly suck...
When bloggernauts and soulful Spaniards collide, good things should happen. In the next few weeks, Nah Right will be release a collaborative mixtape with "it" production team, Cookin Soul. Long story short, it's CS beats with NR's rappin' friends over it.

Details.

First jammie let loose if a remix of Mickey Factz's "Flyin Baloons".

Puddle of Mudd - Blurry

BAM! Didn't see that coming, did you?
Gotta keep you on your toes with the jams every now and then.

Tame One - Anxiety Attacks

Neeeeever know what's gonna happen when you press play on Tame One.

Buff1 ft. AB - Real Appeal

Buff1 "Real Appeal" feat. AB (produced by 14KT) from Okayplayer on Vimeo.

HA! I needed a new theme song. This is officially my jam as of this moment.
Arrogance is fun.

Slaughterhouse "D.O.A." Freestyle

You know I don't bother posting alot of "freestyles"...ESPECIALLY when they're over the beat d'jour. However...you need to get you some of this shit right here.

No...for real...
You NEED to get up on that.

Like, right now. Click on that shit.

Random Question: Madcon Edition

Beggin

Am I the only one STILL in utter shock that Mark Ronson has nothing at all to do with this song??
How is this NOT produced by Ronson?

(The) Gossip - Heavy Cross

You know, to this point, I've always dismissed Gossip as somewhat of a novelty act with a bit of a rubberneck, side show appeal. None of their music ever grabbed me, so I was convinced that if Beth Ditto was 30lbs. lighter, no one would give a shit.

But this right here?
This is the jam.

Microsoft's Project Natal: Racialist?

There are PR nightmares, and then there are amazingly funny PR nightmares.
Apparently, Microsoft's developmental controller-less gaming software has trouble recognizing darker skin.

Can't make this shit up, folks.
Excuse me, I will be laughing for the rest of the day.

It's The Real: Slaughterhouse Rules

The Slaughterhouse Rules from jeff on Vimeo.

"Smoove"

Sa-Ra Creative Partners - The Bone Song

OK...I promise, this will be the last time I post a pre-release/leaked jam from the album. I really don't want to spoil the first listen for myself (and you, I guess...meh)

Have some.

June 23, w00t!

Mos Def ft. Slick Rick - Auditorium

Nothin' too fresh goin' on to bring us back from the weekend (yet), so let's rock with this for a minute or two.

Of course, I KNOW you already have The Ecstatic by now, right?!
Absolutely.

I Done Done It.

It appears that the folks at Da Book (not to be confused with Da Space) have wised up and let us add user/screen names for easy-to-find URLs and whatnot.

Here I am: Facebook.com/FauxFurAndSoccerShirts
"I looooove technologyyyyyyyyy"!

To be honest, I'm still a very cranky old man when it comes to social networking, but whatevs. It seems that if I don't participate at a level higher than I do presently, my name will go unwhispered in the halls of time (what?) and I'll be rendered socially impotent. Can't have that, can we?

(That said...I'll be damned if I sign up for Twitter. That's some next level panic attack shit, right there.)

MySpace Showcase: VLooper

What's that, you say? You're an up-an-coming rapper, and you've got some dope beats lined up for your first project, but they just don't feel French-Canadian enough.

Have no fear, there is a solution, and the name is VLooper.

Thursday, June 11, 2009

Keelay & Zaire ft. Nightclubber Lang - Slick Talk

Fresh Daily - Hard Work

Flying Lotus on them beats.
Have some.

Clipse ft. Pharrell - I'm Good . . .and a timely crackpot theory

CHAD HUGO involvement, FTMFW!!! Kaws on the artwork too, btw.
2nd single from Till The Casket Drops. Sounds like a Part 2 for this.

Jam that shit.

Oh and how's this for irony (or random coincidence)...
No lie, just before I sat back down at this laptop, I was bitching to myself about how boring today's (like, literally today) new music was. Out of the blue I was hatching another random crackpot theory that if Philly's Most Wanted's Get Down Or Lay Down album never came out, then maybe Lord Willin' wouldn't have been the instant classic that it was. Then BAM, we get a new Neptunes-produced Clipse jam. Ain't that somethin'?

Right now, I assume no one has any idea what I'm talking about...and it's making me laugh a little at myself. But think about it. PMW came out about a year before Clipse. It was a Neptunes-heavy album (with some of their best beats that STILL most people have never heard) and centered arond more "street" music (i.e. gun & drug talk) than Chad & P were usually associated with at the time. Just sayin'...PMW's album was like a great practice run for creating the Clipse masterpiece.

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

Jadakiss ft. DMX, Eve, Drag-On & The LOX - Who's Real (Remix)

DOUBLE-R!!!

Listen . . .I can't tell you how HEAVY I was on the Ruff Ryder movement back in high school. This is great. I don't even care if the verses are any good. It makes no difference to me, whatsoever. It's just great to hear everyone on the same (Swizz) track again!

You know what...time for a trip down memory lane with some RR crew joints:
(I'm way too happy about this song, lol)

Zach Morris On Fallon

Random Hip-Hop Fact: "Umi Says" Edition

Sometimes, if it involves an interesting artist with enough history, you learn random rap nerd fact that blow your mind. Mos Def's interview with Angie yesterday hit me with one...

Who's that on the keys for one of Mos' biggest songs, "Umi Says"?
None other than Will.I.Am.

Yup...let that marinate. From collaborating on a classic like "Umi Says" to "Boom Boom Pow".

Tuesday, June 9, 2009

Mutemath - The Nerve

You remember Mutemath, right? Right.
Well they have a new album, Armistice, coming on 8/18 and they've unleashed the lead single on Da Space...go get some.

Basement Jaxx - Raindrops

I either really like this song or completely hate it...and I'm honestly not sure which.
In a hoity toity artistic sense, I imagine that the point.

But whatevs.

Terry Kennedy: Street Dreams

A bit of a preview for the soon-to-be-released film, Street Dreams, TK's story of growing up to become a bro-fessional skater out of Long Beach, CA. Movie opens on the 12th out West and the 18th on the East Coast. I wanna check it out, but I bet I have to to to some random dingy theatre in a trendy Brooklyn neighborhood (or some such thing) to see it.

Damn kids and their indie movie theatres.

DMX's "Who's Real (Remix)" Verse

Usually, I don't post a jam until the whole shit is available. Snippets and previews fill me with a blinding fury the likes of which motal souls cannot comprehend.

But this is special. It's the dog, son!!!
(And how PERFECT is the timing of his comeback right as the "Death of autotune" movement gets rolling?! Perfect)

My inner 1999 self is extra amped about this.

Phenomenal Handclap Band - You'll Disappear

I'm half asleep, so I've got nothing to add to this.

It Is, In Fact, Hammer Time

I done seent this on Yeezy's blog.

It gave me a strong case of the Ha's.

Jay-Z On Hot 97 Today

FYI, Jay-Z will be on the radio with Angie Martinez today @ 3:00. After this weekend's "D.O.A." and Summer Jam shenanigans, I imagine Mr. Carter has quite a bit to talk about.

For you out-of-town folks, I imagine there's a live stream or some such techno wizardry happening on the stations website.

Iron Man vs. Bruce Lee

The winner: Humanity.

Monday

Ummm...yeah.

Saturday, June 6, 2009

Jay-Z - Death of Autotune (D.O.A.)

Yo.

Yooooooooo.

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

It's 2009, and STILL, no one has the ability to to make an EVENT out of dropping a new song like Jay-Z. The King still has the crown.

Hold on...while we're here. For everybody that isn't in the NY area (or just wasn't listening to the radio at the time): This is what it feels like out here when Hov shows up (MASSIVE props to NahRight for getting this radio rip together).

Admittedly, I'm quick to to throw stones at that dinosaur that is Hot 97...But Flex and Cee got this off tonight.

I love this shit! Hip-Hop might be dead, but that ghost is a mutha'fuckah, ain't it?!

Friday, June 5, 2009

What's that?
A Naledge jam produced by Sa-Ra?

Yyyyyeah, I think I might post that.

MySpace Showcase: The Chainsmokers

MySpace is on fire this week! HA! Dammit, I told you.
I'm never leaving!! Twitter can kiss my ass!!

Ahem.

Excuse me.

Let's get some electro up in this piece with NYC outfit, The Chainsmokers (or Le Chainsmokers if you dig the French jams like I do). Added bonus for you local cats: They have a bunch of shows in the City in the next few weeks (including tonight).

MySpace Showcase: Roze

This might be the newest MySpace page I've ever seen. Dude only has 10 friends (not literally) at this point, so you know what that means: Real big "I knew him before he got big" potential, lol.

And it's not just to get your hipster credibility up, kid can REALLY spit! His flow reminds me alot of Wale's. Definitely check him out.

In fact, I'm gonna go on a small-time blogger crusade and see how much of Roze music I can get out there.

The Flavour - Sex On Fire (Reggae Cover)

Now...usually, I have...issues...with, umm..."reggae"...coming from place like Australia.
But for reasons I don't care to understand, this kinda works.

MySpace Showcase: Moe Green

Ain't much happnin' today so far, so let's take a trip into the ol' inbox...
Hmm. I'd give some bio deets, but homie doesn't have one.

Moe Green seems to be very much what the youngins in Cali are doing these day. Perhaps you'll dig it.

Tanya Morgan - So Damn Down

We're getting to the point where I might have to start threatening people with random acts of violence if they don't buy this album.

For real, son...buy it, or I'll leave evey box of cereal in your house wide open. Stale Cap'n Crunch all day, B. You don't want that.

Remember These Dudes?: BEP Edition

Remember back when having Black Eyed Peas in your ears didn't make you want to commit a viloent crime against anyone in the vicinity?

Let's go back to the good times, shall we...

Yes, indeed, sir...that is the jam.

(Hi, Esthero. Still waiting.)

Now, in the interest of fairness, I have to say that everything "recent" from BEP hasn't lead me to punch school children. They have released one ridiculously great jam in the Fergie Ono era that get's the permanent rotation stamp...buuuut no one seemed to care or notice when it came out.

Jam that shit:

I Miss (the old) Kelis

Everyone seems to forget the pre-"Milkshake" part of her career, but Star Trak/Neptunes-era Kelis was some incredible, next-level stuff. To this day, I'm still disappointed that partnership split up (for whatever reason. I blame YOU, Nas!!). Imagine what could have been. Some of those crazy beats that went to women like Gwen Stefani or Madonna in the last few years could have been alot better. Imagine the music she could have made with Kenna!!

I hold on to a crazy theory that Kelis was the glue and muse that made the Neptunes function best as a duo. Don't think there was a musical risk she wasn't willing to take. Now Chad is nowhere to be seen an Pharrell is off by himself making beats that sound like everyone else in the business.

UPDATE: Wale - Family Affair

And just like that, we have visuals.

MGMT - Kids

I'm just as confused as you are.
All this time, there was no official video for this?!

Mos Def ft. Talib Kweli - History

Dilla on them beats.

Unfortunately, this comes with the news that Mos' album has been pushed back...meaning everyone will have already downloaded it.

Joe Budden: Up Close And Personal Pt.1

UP CLOSE & PERSONAL - JOE BUDDEN from Executive Nick on Vimeo.

I don't post many interviews. 99% of them are pointless.

But "this shit right HERE" is well worth a look.

The #1 quality I respect in people is having the balls to do/say whatever they want. Not for the sake of standing out or for shock value, but because they really just don' give a f***, and they're smart enough to understand the consequences of their actions and strong enough to deal with them.

A Ms. Martinez Bonanza!

Somehow, I've forgotten to checkup on my favorite hidden internet gem in a little while.
She's got some new stuff up...great as usual:

'wait a minute' from ms.martinez on Vimeo.

'let it be me' from ms.martinez on Vimeo.

'inch by inch' from ms.martinez on Vimeo.

Wale - Family Affair

In the interest of balance, diversity, contrast and keeping the mouths of fans like me firmly shut, Wale has also let loose another jam from Back to the Feature.
VERY different lane than "Chillin'".
Best Kept Secret on them beats.
Have some.

Wale ft. Lady Gaga - Chillin'

Still don't like the song, but I'm an ardent Wale supporter, so here we go. And the idea of Lady Gaga walking around a DC hood is completely off the comedy charts.

The Presets - Kicking And Screaming

"Kicking and Screaming" The Presets

This song is fun to play when you feel like giving people the crazy eye in traffic.

UPDATE Kanye West - Paranoid

KANYE WEST "PARANOID" feat: RIHANNA Dir: NABIL from nabil elderkin on Vimeo.

Here we go, the ACTUAL video, as we were supposed to see it in the first place. Not that there's anything wrong with watching Rihanna dance around for a few minutes, but this is alot better. And as a bonus, the song itself gets a few tweaks.

FACT: The answer to the question, "More synth?" is never "No".

Cassie ft. Busta Rhymes, Day 26 & Red Cafe - Must Be Love (Remix)

In his infinite wisdom, Mr. Combs has smashed Cassie's version and the original Day 26 demo version together. Then he got himself a verse from Busta (whose romance jams always make me chuckle) and the latest Bad Boy addition, Red Cafe.

I still don't understand why the Cassie/Diddy version wasn't a monster hit, but hey...what do I know? I don't like this new version. It's crowded and messy.

Gymkhana 2!!!

If you know me personally, then you are aware that I will be watching this non-stop for the rest of the week. Hold my calls.

P.S. - I have never missed my beloved RSX Type-S (a.k.a. The Valkyrie Missile) more than I do in this exact moment. She was a monster already, and we were just getting started. So beautiful, so light, so revv-happy. A sweet 13lb/hp ratio and the mods were just beginning! We only had 31 months thogether, then some asshole decided to steal her from the Menlo Mall parking lot. Who the fuck gets jacked in Menlo Park?!? Only me.
