Wayne Brady x Mike Tyson x Bobby Brown: Every Little Step

Y'all know how I like my New Jack Swing.
I won't even lie. I still jam Bobby Brown like that shit was new.
This is great.

What are the odds that Bobby thought it was '88 while filming this?

Black Milk - Gotta Go

I do like Black Milk's new album...but isn't it the exact same thing as the last one?

[Before listening]
Oooooookay. Just finding out that this song even exists, or was in the works, and here we are with its live premiere. I'm nervous. New N.E.R.D. . .
PRODUCED BY DAFT PUNK
I'm terrified. What if this sucks??
Do you understand how tremendously important a Neptunes/Daft Punk collaboration is to me?! It's as ridiculous as "Hey, what if Thierry Henry and Rafa Marquez suddenly joined the Red Bulls?" What? That happened?!

Wait...before I press play on this, I need to get my mind's ear in the right place and remember the absolute golden greatness that happened the last time 2 of my mega-favorites got together:
Daft Punk - Daft Club - 03 - Harder Better Faster Stronger (Neptunes RMX) by Rombo_Rama

OK...feeling better. Lets do this!

[After listening]

::blank stare::

What the hell was that?
I have officially lost all hope for this album being even remotely good.

Philly Union: Now With Added Whackness

"Hast thou met my sons?! They are the fucking worst!"

Hooooooooooooly shit, you people are terrible!!!
You fools are SERIOUSLY calling yourselves "The U" now?

You wonder why every team on the East Coast mocks you. It's absolutely shocking how unoriginal you are. Honestly...you're an insult to the "proud" belligerent history of dickhead, knuckle-dragging Philly sports fans. I understand it's year 1, but JEEEEEEEEEEEEESUS.

October 16 is coming.
Your one chance this year to see how its really done. When 250 of us shout down your whole house for 90+ min, don't take it as a defeat, take it as a grown man teaching a young boy a lesson. Just make sure you say "thank you" before we leave.

Skillz x DJ Jazzy Jeff x J. Period: Infamous Quotes

Well, then. Unexpected new mixtape from Skillz. I don't know a thing about it. In fact, considering Skillz notorious lack of prolificacy (sorry), I'm shocked that we have this AND a new album from him on Oct 25. Hey...why not. Have some.

Duck Sauce (Armand Van Helden x A-Trak) - Barbara Streisand

Duck Sauce "Barbra Streisand" from Mr Goldbar on Vimeo.

This has GOT to be the craziest and most wide-ranging bunch of cameo's in a single music video since "Liberian Girl". When else are you gonna see members of the Bootcamp Clik and Vampire Weekend in the same video? I guess it shouldn't be too shocking, AVH and A-Track are both the largeness in their own (very different) world. I guess that's what makes the whole Duck Sauce thing so dope.

Mickey Factz: I'm Better Than You

Mickey Factz - Im Better Than You (Mixtape) by Hypetrak

Aaaaaaand, finally, the much-delayed mixtape from Mickey Factz has arrived for you to jam as you see fit. I swear, this was supposed to come out like 4 years ago.

Mos Def Signs to G.O.O.D. Music?

Just revealed this morning in an excerpt from this month's XXL:
“Just as Kanye returned to his roots to scoop up Common, he recently recruited his buddy Brooklyn rapper/singer/actor Mos Def into the GOOD Music fold. Long regarded as a formidable talent by underground devotees and mainstream fans alike, Mos appeared on “Two Words” (from Kanye’s 2005 The College Dropout) and “Drunk and Hot Girls” (from KW’s 2007 Graduation). Since his 1999 solo debut, Black on Both Sides, Mos has increasingly been pushed — whether by generational choices or self-exile — to the fringes of indie, alternative hip hop. Maybe it will take Kanye to reign him in.”

Kanye West ft. RZA, Jay-Z, Pusha T, Swizz Beatz & Cyhi The Prince - So Appalled

So Appalled by Kanye West by asingh9690
Some quick notes:
1. Yes, you've heard this title and Kanye verse before
2. I guess this puts an end to all the Clipse/Jay-Z subliminal beef rumors
3. Cyhi signs to a fancy label like Kanye's and switches from "Da Prince" to "The Prince". VERY funny.

Some nasty one-liners on this one. Oddly enough, this time around its Kanye with the sub-par bars that are dragging down the rest of the song. Anyone else get the feeling that Mr. Carter is about 2-3 weeks away from giving a few people the "Takeover" treatment?

Other gigantic news: As you know by now, there is a Kanye West/Jay-Z EP on the way called Watch The Throne (Thrown being seen as well). Well, this weekend 'Ye told the world that not only will we be getting production from him on the project, but we can also expect work from Madlib, Pete Rock and Q-Tip . . .let that marinate for a minute.

Sebastien Tellier - Sexual Sportswear (SebastiAn Remix)

01 Sexual Sportswear (SebastiAn Remix) by bcbm21

Confusing with the name thing, right?
Yeah. Them French. Odd people. They're all named SebastiE/An, I think.
They can jam, though*.

* and get drop-kicked in the knee by karma 2 days before the "biggest" game of the damn season. Jackass.

Blaqstarr ft. M.I.A. - Lemme Hump You

NSFW?
This might be my new favorite thing ever. The song is covered in whatever sauce, but the video is fantastic.

You may not recognize the name Blaqqstarr, but if you hang around jerks like me (or are one), you've definitely got summa his beats in your collection. He rolls with Diplo an'nem.

LCD Soundsystem - Home

LCD Soundsystem "Home" from FUNWUNCE on Vimeo.

This album is odd to me. When I listen to it as a singular project, I don't really like it. As individual songs, it's pretty good. I don't know, man.

However, the lesson we can all take from this video is that no matter how well you raise your robot baby, eventually they all end up in porn.

I'm sleepy.

Shad ft. Von Pea & Donwill - Rose Garden

Shad: "Rose Garden" (Remix) f. Von Pea & Donwill (Prefix Premiere) by prefixmag

I have no idea.

Skillz ft. Raheem DeVaughn - Call Me Crazy

To reiterate my Face-Bookeries:
There's a million songs about Random Smooth Guy swooping in and stealing someone's girl...where's the jam about the unfortunate consequences of getting stomped out if you choose the wrong one to go after?

Kendrick Lamar: OD (Overly Dedicated)

This thing has been almost here, then delayed. An album, then a mixtape, then an album again, and apparently both now. Whatevs, man. Regardless of what we're supposed to consider it, it's here.

Foals - 2 Trees

Foals - 2 Trees from Sub Pop Records on Vimeo.

This is great hangover music (that's a compliment), even if the puppets creep me out a little.
I didn't know there was a "new" album out.

Total Life Forever

The REAL Reasons Why LA Will Lose...

The music world has decided to do nothing for me today...
so let's talk a little bit of the ol' shit, shall we?

I can't believe I'm saying this, but do you see those men above. They are the true reasons why my New York Red Bulls are going to get what everyone strives for when they take a trip to Los Angeles: deep penetration (especially Dane! Hi-yooooooooo!!!!).

"78 DPs in one game, blah, blah, blah" - Media dude
"Henry is hurt, blah, blah blah" - BigSoccer Guy
"LA Galaxy invented the concept of competitive athletics and Jesus wears a Buddle shirt" - You

All that is dandy, but people seem to be forgetting one amazingly obvious point about this matchup: Our wingers are actually functional. Dane Richards has been (by a TREMENDOUSLY wide margin) the best player in a poison soda shirt for the past 6 weeks or so. Joel Lindpere is literally made of spare steam engine parts and has the work rate of a Big Daddy Kane backup dancer. Who's going to be lining up against them? The half rotten corpse of a one-legged gimp formerly known as David Beckham, and the suddenly re-Caked Landon Donovan who ain't been right since Bianca came back home and put that thang on him.

No contest.

Museum of Bellas Artes - Watch The Glow

Hooray, The Europes!
This kinda jams. Well enough, I suppose.

I have no idea who this is (they used to go by Pivot, apparently) but this is fresh.
I'm sure NO ONE will agree, but this sounds like Jimmy Eat World from some alternate universe's future*. Gotta see what else these people have. Onward to Facebook!

* Although, if it's an alternate universe, then the time distinction is unnecessary.

Ok, I efphs with PVT. Check out their album, Church With No Magic:

Update: Kanye West ft. Mos Def & Raekwon - Lord, Lord, Lord (Swizz-free Version)

Oh, man. This is sad and really funny at the same time. Sooo...everyone loves this new joint...buuuuut the consensus seems to be "this is a classic, but Swizzie's verse...not so much". So, someone went and smoothly edited his bars out (and trimmed some of the time off the end)Have some.

I feel bad for dude, but it really is a whack verse.
Then I remember this...and all sympathy is gone.

French Horn Rebellion - This Moment

French Horn Rebellion - This Moment by Mood-for.fr
Hmmm. I dig this...but it gets a bit Z100 during the chorus. It's like they recorded the verses and said to eachother, "Eachother...this is 36% too funky" and went and added unnecessary layers of pop on top of the thing. Ah well. Still good enough.

Sleigh Bells - Infinity Guitars

Kanye West - Lord Lord Lord (feat. Mos Def, Swizz Beatz, Raekwon & Charlie Wilson) by shavarross
This week's G.O.O.D. Friday jam.
Beat is tailor-made for Raekwon, ain't it? Expect to hear 48 freestyles on this beat by the end of next week. The curiosity of which of these jams are actually on the album is killing me.

TONIGHT: Buy Me Some Booze!

I'm gonna be honest:
Someone told me what your plans were for tonight . . .and it sounded whack. SO, because you're my peoples and I don't want you wasting a perfectly good Friday night, I'll tell you where you need to be.

Tonight at Public Assembly in Brooklyn is the album release party and performances from some personal connects of mine that you've seen around here before: Raw Nature and KON. Along with special performances by St. Joe Louis, Silent Knight and others.

Be there...Hear some good Hip-Hop. Buy me some liquor.

La Roux - In For The Kill (Danger's Ocean Remix)

The timing seems strange, but better late than never, I suppose.
A new "In For The Kill" remix EP is out now. i wonder if she's doing the re-release thing now, after "Bulletproof" brought her to a new audience. Either way, I like this one:
La Roux – In For The Kill (Danger’s Ocean Remix) by Hypetrak

Les Sins - Youth Gone + Lina

Let's play a game.
Below are two fresh jams from someone you know very well, but you just haven't heard them under this name or with this new sound. You listen and take a guess. I'll tell you who it is "after the jump".

So we got the so-called CDQ mp3 a few days ago.
I still say that shit isn't the finished version.

Anyway...taking us a step closer to getting the final product (I'm guessing tomorrow for GOOD Friday), someone added in the vocal samples Kanye banged out during the VMA performance to that undone mp3. Definitely makes thing better while we wait.

KON (Knowledge Over Nonsense): Above The Clouds

Above The Clouds by KON

This one comes from a personal recommendation from E.M. Theories.

Funny how the mind works, because when I saw the Above The Clouds title, the first thing I thought of was Blu & Exile's classic, Below the Heavens. Then I press play, and the similarities continue. The vibe, the smooth production, the regular-dude approach. This is great. It feels like B&E meets Foreign Exchange's first album.

NY: Now SUBSTANTIALLY Better Than Your Team

[It's been a minute since I pissed off an opposing fan]

My first-born son will be named Hans Erik And Soccer Shirts.
This whole "competent front office" thing is some shit I can get used to.

I was already 100% certain that NY was good enough to win err'thang this year, but now? Shiiiiiiit. We just traded our constantly injured 3rd-4th striker/winger for a potential starting #10? Yeah, I think I'll take that deal.

It's going to be a VERY strange Fall around here. Never been in a position where anything less than a Championship was a failure (and don't you dare tell me otherwise).

Twin Shadow - Castles In The Snow

Twin Shadow - Castles In The Snow Directed by Jamie Harley from Twin Shadow on Vimeo.

A brief tale of a man who listens to too much friggin' music:
I had been seeing this Twin Shadow cat all over the internet this summer and whatnot. I'd give a brief listen, and respond with "dammit, this slow, droopy-sounding indie shit has gotten out of control. I can't jam to this shit", so I stopped paying attention. Then the one and only Mr. Francis asks me if I had checked out the album, and I was "Nah", because I didn't even remember who Twin Shadow was. However, I did remember that I have the musical attention span of a 9yr old, so I check my own site's archives, and apparently, I was rockin' the shit out of "Castles..." and "Yellow Balloon" back in February. Aaaaabsolutely no recollection of any of that whatsoever. Happens all the time. This is why I have a dozen albums on my iPhone of shit I was all sorts of excited about, but haven't even got around to hearing yet. TOO MUCH MUSIC. As much as I catch, i lose in the process. Addiction is a BITCH.

The ILLZ - Cover Me (I'm Going In)

I think you'd be amazed how many times this La Roux jammie has ben sampled.
This is the best of the bunch, though. Have some.

Chromeo: Business Casual

Looking like a good new music Tuesday.
Also out today (finally!) is Chromeo's new album, Business Casual. I'm still upset that I didn't have this album to jam for the summer. I can't retro funk in a sweater, son!!

Cassius: The Rawkers EP

I hit you with "I <3 You So" last week. The new, full EP from Cassius drops today.
I haven't heard any other songs on it yet, but as always, in Ed Banger I trust.

Russ Chimes: Midnight Club EP

Ehhhh, I'm not really sure what a Russ Chimes is.

Very curious to see where he goes with this. Have some.

First Post on Monday = Kanye West

If I'm gone for the whole weekend, I think we all know what the first Monday post is gonna be for a while: Kanye's weekly G.O.O.D. Friday jam.

This time, the song is actually titled, "G.O.O.D. Friday", and features the bulk of the label roster, with Common, CuDi, Big Sean, Charlie Wilson, and the Clipse's Pusha T making his debut of sorts with his new family:
Kanye West - Good Friday (feat. Common, Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Big Sean & Charlie Wilson) by Epic_Network

Also, at last night's Thank God I Have a TiVo, Because I'm 28, and Alot Of This Shit makes Me Violently Ill Awards, 'Ye premiered a new joing with Pusha T called "Runaway". If you know me personally, then you know this just might get Theme Music Status:

When he first came out on the MPC, I thought he was just gonna do a short instrumental set or something. That would have been dope! The world's most (unnecessarily) controversial rapper, for the most anticipated performance . . .to not even rap? Would have been great. I liked this song anyway, so we're good. If you like, you can get an mp3 of the live jammie. Of course if/when he releases a studio version, you know where to come to find it.

UPDATE: I missed this while blowing through the VMA's last night . . .but Taylor Swift is seriously the biggest cornball alive. WTF was that song/performance? She treated the Kanye thing like it was a public assault that's she's spent a year in therapy for. Good grief. And now I'm reading that she was supposed to appear on stage with Kanye to close the show, but she waited until the last minute to refuse. I'm a bit disappointed in Kanye for even wanting to do that in the first place. What's the point?

Joell Ortiz: Farewell Summer EP

Wow...I had no idea this was coming, which is exciting enough for me. But when you check the track listing, you will see why I can't wait to bounce for lunch and get this rockin' in my car:

2. Murder (Prod. by Statik Selektah)
3. Battle Cry (Prod. by The Audible Doctor)
4. Sing Like Bilal (Remix) (feat. Sheek Louch) (Prod. by DJ Premier)

JoJo - In The Dark

Somebody done grew up!

That sound you hear is Freddy Adu tripping over his cat, trying to get his phone so he can tell his agent to get him back to MLS as soon as possible.

I Have a Blogspot Account, Thus Validating My Opinions...

Random rant...

There are 2 trends in young Hip-Hop than need to die immediately
1) Weed Rap: There are a good half-dozen rappers taking up incredible amounts on bandwidth on the internet that have nothing to talk about other than the contents of their [whatever kids smoke out of]. Who cares? Honestly. It was OK/cool/interesting when there were just a few Devin the Dude's in the world, or emcees would have a track every-other album dedicated to their favorite herbal recreation, but shit...now we've got kids like Wiz Kalifah, Curren$y and Freddie Gibbs who can't go more than 8 bars without using the words "smoke" or "green", and yet they're considered some of the genre's best new artists.

2) Making songs about the downside of fame before you're famous: Or as I call it, the CuDi Complex. It seems that the success of CuDi, Drake and B.o.B has lead to a rash of pseudo-emotional young rappers who somehow claim to be jaded towards "the game" before anyone really even knows who they are. It's cookie-cutter shit at its worst, and borderline emo. Obviously, I'm not the kind of dude who only has jams M.O.P. and street shit. I enjoy and appreciate REAL emotion and sentiment on a record, but how is it that you can write and record a song about hard hard it is to please fans, or how lonely it is to be a star, or how "the haters" are trying to keep you down on your first single? Or worse yet, on a mixtape track before you've ever even been signed or so much as gone on opened for someone else's tour?

Glassjaw - All Good Junkies Go to Heaven

Wow, look who's back!
The return of Glassjaw, the only band of this sort that I have ever cared to listen to. Especially the more melodic stuff. I will jam damn near anything Daryl Palumbo is involved with. Really wish I had more details to share. Let the album anticipation begin!!

UPDATE: Looks like I missed another new jam/video. "You Think You're (John Fucking Lennon)". That one's ALOT heavier that "...Junkies...", but somehow I can still listen to it. Don't know what it is about Glassjaw that makes this kind of thing so listenable to me, but whatever.

Bad Rabbits - Neverland

I don't know...
but I am amused.

Side Question That No One is Gonna Answer Because I'm Shouting Into an Empty Room: Over the last 2yrs, between the group album, solo albums and mixtapes, has anyone come even remotely close to consistently putting out as much great music and the members of Tanya Morgan?

Kings of Leon: More "Radioactive" Than They Might Anticipate

[Editorial disclaimerOnly By Night was one of my favorite albums whatever year that was it came out, but I can't so much as even pretend to press play on anything from it at this point. Why? Partly because I'm a huge music snob in a very thin disguise, so it's mainstream appeal had a negative effect on it's staying power (sue me). Partly because the album was too good, and reminds me too much of the very specific personal time period in which it was released]

First single from the much-anticipated album, Backlash.

Oh...that's NOT that album title? Well, shit, they should have just went with that and saved everyone the trouble. KoL are in a HORRIBLE position for this new release. I can 100% guarantee that no one, in any sector or rock criticism will like it. It's impossible. The buzz blogs and cool kids bailed on 'em immediately after "Use Somebody" hit Top 40 radio, and I will bet a month's pay (all several dozen dollars of it) that this next album will be over-produced, over-thought, and over-polished...because that's how these things work...and the "mainstream" critics will kill it, because it lacks the "rawness" of the last LP. Write it down. It's a completely inevitable and unavoidable cycle.

I won't even get into the high-level awkwardness of the video.

You know exactly what I mean, too.
This band is SCREWED.

Black Keys...are you paying attention?!

Kendrick Lamar ft. Jhene Aiko - Growing Apart

KILL ME NOW, PLEASE!!!: Eli Porter x Diplo x Lil' Jon

::10min pass as I contemplate why I continue to roam this earth::

Eli Porter - U Don't Like Me [E-Dolla Remix] (Ft. Lil' Jon) by donutsandmilk
As you know, I honestly try my best to avoid even mentioning things I hate on this blog. There are thousands of others on The Netz who are more than willing to point out what sucks, OR simply mention every damn song they come across for the sake of site hits...

HOWEVER...sometimes the not-so proverbial shit hits us fans right in the teeth with such amazing force that I have to share with you all just to make sure that A) I haven't been stricken with brain fever and this isn't some sort of medically induced night terror, and B) if my life is going to be worse for knowing that something exists, I refuse to be alone and have to drag someone down with me.

So here we are.
I assume you remember Eli Porter, right?
Who could possibly forget this? Yeah.

Well . . .now Eli has a FUCKING MIXTAPE coming out, and his lead single is that shit up there ^^^, with production from Diplo. DIPLO?!? DIPLO!!!!!! And featuring what must be the re-animated corpse of Lil' Jon, because I'm positive he died in 2005.

Fuckin' hell.
I'm off to go drink through my lunch break.

I assume I missed a TON of freshness over Labor Day weekend, so I think you and I should both be fully prepared for one of those days when I'm blasting out a new post every 37sec from now until 4:00. Just feels like one of those days.

Anyway...I've probably said it 2-3 times already, but I'm extra amped for the 1982 album. Shits gonna be right! October 26.

Kanye West - Devil In a New Dress

Kanye West - Devil In A New Dress by UpscaleHype

G.O.O.D. Fridays continues
(even if this was late and technically dropped on Sat)

Surprise, surprise, I dig this one too.
Remember, this isn't an album preview jam. Just some random work Kanye decided to share. Actually, the beat reminds me of something Freeway would have killed back when he was at his best.

UPDATE: Now I'm reading that this might be on the album?

Skillz - Regular Guy

So I guess I missed this from a week or two ago.
multiple Skillz songs in the same month? Is he dying and doesn't want to tell anyone or something? This is OK, I like the other jam from yesterday better, though.

Jean Grae - Love Song Pt. 4

Nice, back to back posts from the two greatest female emcees of all time.
I say that knowing full well both Jean and Digga would slap me for limiting them to the "female emcee" category.

This song appears on a Cookin Soul mixtape that I didn't know existed.

Rah Digga - A Few Thoughts

This is so dope.
This Nottz beat is absolutely PERFECT for Rah Digga.
Album is gonna be absurd.

Maximum Baloon ft. Tunde Adebimpe - Absence of Light

Maximum Balloon - Absence of Light by luisfsal

I neeeeeed this album.
Every song so far has been great. This one features MB's Dave Sitek teaming up with TV on the Radio bandmate, Tunde Adebimpe with inevitably fantastic results.

September 21!!

America - Tin Man (Le Poney Club Orchestra Classic Edit)

America - Tin Man (Le Poney Club Orchestra Classic Edit) by Le Poney Club Orchestra
Well then...
I don't how a French electro remix of an America jam can work...but it does!
I think the world would be a better place if they got up on "Horse With No Name" too.
Why not?

UPDATE: This has led me to scan through America's greatest hits...there's some JAMS in there, man. I think I need this stuff

Cee-Lo Green - F**k You (Video)

Every once in a while, America needs a really good, but terribly cheesy song to sing in unison. I like this one. Did you know Bruno Mars actually wrote this thing? Crazy, right?
