I'm no journalist, I'm no gossip hack. I'm just here to give you a random collection of the things I love and want to share with my friends who just aren't dorky enough to find it all for themselves.
Enjoy the ride...because gas is expensive and I might have to park my spaceship one day.
Jeez, when's the last time Fleet Foxes crossed your mind?!
I was never a huge fan, but some of their stuff would stick. I like this one.
You have to listen all the way through to get the full magic.
Side Note: How much would you drop on Pay-Per-View if you were told that the next WrestleMania was being held in Portland and the headline match was Fleet Foxes vs. Grizzly Bear?
Blu on them beats.
Funny, because Versis and Blu remind me ALOT of eachother.
Right now, my Hip-Hop "Why Aren't You Listening to This?" Trifecta: Versis, Voli & The ILLZ.
Voli returns with a new one, and as usual, it's dope.
WHY AREN'T MORE OF YOU LISTENING TO VOLI?! The Wall coming this Spring. BUy it, or...I'll send you a nasty letter or something.
Much better quality here.
Have I been in a cave, or is this the first new jam from DIOYY in damn near 3 years? I jammed the unholy efph out of the first album, so I am 100% in for the follow-up, Don't Say We Didn't Warn You in March.
All hail the majestic triumph of internetting that is SoundCloud!
Would you be interested in a wuick mix of jams from Breakbot? Damn right, you would. (The last 2 are the big winners to me)
Yak fans have been waiting for his next album, Gas Galaxy for a minute...but it looks like things are taking an odd turn. Instead of releasing the collection as a whole, Yak and producer/co-conspirator Chapter 7 will release one new track from their rekkid per month for the rest of 2011. At the end of the year, the cohesive jammie will drop complete with new remixes and such. Interesting.
Listen...
I know a handful of you are reading this right now.
I have no talent whatsoever, but I know a potentially amazing song when I hear one.
If the right combination of producer and emcee got together and sampled "Rope of Sand" by Jamie Lidell, I am 100% certain that it would be a classic. Can't you just hear a Joe Budden Mood Muzik type song coming out of this? The melodies, the strings, the vocal samples you could pull from it...all of it.
Wow, I completely forgot about No Age.
I liked that album...uhh...whatever the hell it was...from whenever. It had that song it it. The noisy one? Yeah, that one. Good shit.
Love me some Sleigh Bells.
The calmest (but not really) song on the album gets a new, quirky* video.
* I love when people with real jobs at real webites say "quirky". It's a sure sign that they've gotten too old and don't understand "the kids" anymore. Good times. I'm old.
White Lies are the amalgamation of everything that's happened in the UK for the last 30 years.
To mark the release of their album, Ritual, they've let loose this short film / long-form video showcasing "Bad Love", "Holy Ghost" and "Bigger Than Us". The film itself makes no sense to me, but really I don't need bands to give me great cinema, so whatevs.
This isn't "new", but you need it in your life anyway.
If you remember, Chapel Club is one of my new obsessions, thanks to the stupidly great "The Shore". CP's album, Palace is set for release on Monday (31st) and there's a Deluxe Edition that includes the Wintering EP, which you are now playing.
So go get that.
I want to make sure you stay cooler than your goofy friends and get on this bandwagon before they do.
Anyone with the unfortunate condition of having me as a Face Books friend knows that this is probably my favorite song right now. It is IMPOSSIBLE to stay in a bad mood while this is jammin'. Download it an make it your alarm clock. I guarantee you will do the running man before you're fully conscious.
...and I don't even know what 70% of the words are.
Underneath the Pine on Feb. 22...if the whole thing grooves like this, I'll make a trophy and send it to Chaz myself.
You already know that your "existence" aggravates me extnsively, but let's rap for a minute, shall we?
LEGIT QUESTION: At the risk of starting a (highly amusing) shouting match...What are you day-dreaming, ghost-humping Cosmos "supporters" gonna do if this whole thing ends with them calling the Meadowlands home in 2013?
For real. I honestly want to know. And don't tell me it's not probable possible. I'm genuinely curious as to what happens when if the "Cosmos" "return" an never play a game in the 5 Boroughs*.
* As if the REAL Cosmos glory days happened in NYC anyway.
It's been a while since I really felt something this duo has dropped. I guess they're victims of the "Never let your first song be your best song" curse.
Odd way to start a Monday, but I don't care.
Funky is funky.
I assume that you are an ignorant boob like myself, so allow me to share this mix with you, so that we both may embark on this trans-continental joutrney of jam. I have no idea what I'm talking about. Today's gonna be an interesting one. But my idiocy aside, there's some REALLY dope shit in this mix:
Aww, snap! Ever wonder what Just Blaze does when he gets bored? He throws down nerd-tasticly dope dance mixes destined to kill his street cred. Good stuff! Alot of people don't realize just how far-reaching his tastes are. "Props" to the SoundCloud King, 88 Keys, for posting this.
I just bought the pioneer djm-2000. I had no speakers for this mix.. (it was 5am) only headphones. couldnt wait to try it out tho. being that i had no speakers and couldnt monitor well, there are obviously mistakes and screw ups. but it was all in fun i was just learning the mixer, this thing has a zillion and one features and i was using them all at once! =D. i actually ended up having some moments! dont judge me. just having some fun with a new toy. I will upload a real follow up now that im a little comfortable with this thing. i definitely got in a little zone at like 1 hour 27 minutes. enjoy and dont laugh AT me please.. laugh with me =) - Just Blaze
I'd tell you more, but I don't know.
Some friends of mine are doing a showcase for Patwa and others in BK on Sat, and the tossed this video up on The Face Books. Consider me intrigued.
No change of heart there. If anything, I feel even better about it today than I did 3 months ago.
BUT...because I will always have love for JPA, I wanna take a minute to 1) say "it's been real", and (more importantly) 2) applaud that man for knowing he had the LA Galaxy front office by the Herba-nuts and shaking them fools down for DP money.
All hail the Queen.
This is essentially a Marco Polo remix of "Straight Spittin' IV" of that Classics album. The one you still didn't get. The one your iPod is extra whack for not having.
Wow, when they said "a year off", they actually meant a year off! In fact, it's been 364 days since they made that announcement. Can't tell you how happy this makes me. If you're new around here or unfamiliar, The Carps are my Favorite Band That No One I Meet Has Ever Heard Of. I REALLY want these guys to be successful, however they define that. Good people, great music, incredible creativity.
The song and video are strange enough, but the back-story is just as bugged out. I first posted this jam in December 2009...and by then, A&A had already broken up. Now here we are, over a year later with a new video for it? I don't know, man. Kids these days.
You're going to spend the next 10min justifying to yourself how much you like this song.
I guarantee it. You're gonna hate yourself, but you're also gonna try and download it someplace.
I feel like making a quick left turn. Bam.
Weirdo cover of that already weird aerobics jam with the chick from Grease. Whatever her name was. Would you have bet that it was possible to make that shit highly listenable? Lies! No you wouldn't. Here we are anyway.
The busiest man in Hip-Hop, Statik Selktah is at it again.
This time with a quick EP from Freeway. "Quick" as in they recorded it live on UStream in the span of 7hrs last week. Yeah.
Won't lie, I haven't really liked most of Freeway's stuff in the last couple of years. It all sounds the same to me. Like nothing's changed since Philadelphia Freeway*. This should be a different turn for him with Statik's production, so we shall see. Check it on iTunes. * An incredibly slept on album to this day.
OK, back to work.
I might set a record for most posts in a day, so get yourself a snack and hang on. Gonna be a busy one.
Remember the Random Axe (Sean Price, Guilty Simpson, Black Milk) project we started hearing about last summer? Well supposedly, its finished. This verse is apparently a leftover. BIG expectations for this album. Don't see how it can't be dope, though.
Hopefully you've noticed, but I've been pretty slack with the posting around here in the last few weeks. There's a reason: I'm conserving by blogger chi. Saving up "energy" for some (Xenu willing) big changes in 2011. I don't want to unwittingly release the proverbial legumes, as it were, just yet. BUT, some movement is set to take place in the near future and I haven't decided what to do with this page.
To be honest, I love this blog. It's like yelling loudly in a room that only has 8 people in it, but the 8 people that do listen are unexpectedly important. Coming soon, I'll be with my friends in a new house, with bigger rooms, and even more people to scream at. Good stuff. In plain English: You should be hearing more from me soon. But in the new realm, I'll be doing bigger and better stuff . . .assuming catastrophe doesn't strike and I somehow mess it all up.
Soooo, yeah. I'm still here. Hopefully some news is coming.
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
About damn time! International law should demand at least one Ed Banger compilation very 3 months. Sadly, we have to wait untim Feb. 14 to get up on this ::wink wink:: but whatever. It will be jammed, and it will be jammed with the utmost of gusto.
All new and unreleased stuff from the usual suspects of Busy P, Mehdi, Mr. Oizo, Mr. Flash, Breakbot Cassius, Feadz & SebastiAn, as well as some feature work from Flying Lotus, Discodiene and a bunch more.
Man. this news just made my month.
Valentine's Day is relevant again!
I just wanna take a second to say that my "Holy shit, I can't wait for the 2011 season" meter has exploded. I'm all set. Today's Draft was the clincher. New York was already (on paper) the overwhelming favorite for the East this year, and didn't really need to make any huge changes from the 2010 squad, just just look at the cast of characters joining the family this season:
- A Englishman with a flair for face-punching who could easily be Jason Statham's stunt double.
- A Norwegian mid with a world-class crazy face who jams out as a club DJ on the side.
- The homegrown striker that Philly was desperate to sign.
- Wayne Rooney's little brother.
C'mon!! That's almost too much potential entertainment for one team.
I am going to love 2011.
Aesop Rock on them beats.
Hip-Hop is having a big Tuesday morning.
This is dope. Best song I've heard from Murs in a minute. And the world needs Aesop Rock to put out more work. This will serve as the title track to Murs' next project.
Here's my guess: There's a heavy layer of irony slathered on top of this shit.
They don't want us to take this at face value do they?
I mean...it couldn't really be what it seems, right?
::Just finished 3rd listen::
OK...considering who Kanye is, and who Jay has become in the last few years, I'm gonna run with the "ironic" angle. On the surface, this is one of the worst songs either artist has ever recorded. By a longshot. BUT, both of these men (rightfully) consider themselves to be the leaders of the genre, so stepping their own shit down to Wocka-Flockian levels has to have some sort of double meaning. A sort of "You dummies can't see us when we're up here, so we'll play down on your level and make a better song in your style than you could ever make for yourself". Right?
Is that the case, or am I protecting myself as fan and absorbing the blow from what's nothing more than just a bad song? I choose the former.
OR better yet...is the the moment that both Kanye AND Jay-Z have reached Advanced status?!
And here it is, the first "single" from the upcoming MMJB mixtape.
Zero disappointments! On this one, we get STS, Truck North, P.O.R.N. and Black Thought (everyone but Dice Raw)
Various body parts are set to jiggle in your face.
I'm an officially putting The Electro-piano Universe in the contact info for all my business cards. Right after I get business cards. Which will happen right after I get a reason to actually have business cards.
I like electro jams that sound like soundtracks to Sega Saturn games*
Hmmm. Memphis, eh?
No lie, I just heard of this kid about an hour ago. Not too shabby.
He's not quite there yet, but in time, I can imagine him being kinda dope.
Holy hell, this is a boring day. First post @ 2:30?!
Anyway . . .
As you know, I have an often violent dislike for music videos that don't include embed codes. However, in rare circumstances, I can get past it. Such is the case with this H&LA video. In short...it's gonna remind you of that time in your youth when you were too young to realize how odd looking Downtown Julie Brown really was.
