Yak Ballz - Ready to Roll

04 Ready To Roll (Prod. by Yak Ballz) by yakballz

Latest piece of the slowly developing Gas Galaxy puzzle.
Self-produced this time.
This song sounds like sitting on the trunk of your car and drinking Jeremiah Weed* out of a can.
That's a good thing.

* Unrelated side note: Every time I see that shit, I can hear 2Pac saying "All I neeeed is some Jeremiah Weeeeed...".  Not sure why I share these things.

Yak Ballz - Youniverse

Youniverse (Prod. by Yak Ballz) by yakballz

New self-produced joint from Yak.
Because I'm a stubborn ass, I'm not downloading any of these jams until I can get Gas Galaxy all in one package.  DEFIANCE!!

Yak Ballz - DSMU (Don't Set Me Up)

DSMU (prod. by Chapter 7) by yakballz

Yak fans have been waiting for his next album, Gas Galaxy for a minute...but it looks like things are taking an odd turn.  Instead of releasing the collection as a whole, Yak and producer/co-conspirator Chapter 7 will release one new track from their rekkid per month for the rest of 2011.  At the end of the year, the cohesive jammie will drop complete with new remixes and such.  Interesting.

Cage - Captain Bumout

Fantastic.
Been waiting forever for this video.

Cage fans really hate this album, huh?
Very weird artist/fan relationship.  If Cage isn't visibly depressed, medicated and 20lbs underweight, his cult followers get pissed.  I don't get it.  Snarky Cage is better than barely coherent suicidal Cage.

Central Services (El-P x Camu Tao): Forever Frozen In Time

Central Services (El-P x Camu Tao) – Forever Frozen In Television Time (FreEP) by Hypetrak

This is MAGIC.

Recorded back in 2005, this project was never released, but is finally seeing the light of day in conjunction with the release of Camu Tao's posthumous* debut, King of Hearts.

I assume not many of you are familiar with Camu, or El-P fot that matter.  As a Cardboard City/Weathermen junkie...take my word for it.  You want this.  You will love this.  It could be one of those albums that really changes your perspective on music here on out.  Don't sleep!

King of Hearts

* Phonetically speaking, isn't "posthumous" a beautiful word, considering its definition?

Def Jux: R.I.P.

Some unfortunate Hip-Hip news:
Definitive Jux, record label home to incredible emcees and artists like El-P, Aesop Rock, Cage, Yak Ballz, Camu Tao, Murs, RJD2 and many more is ceasing normal operation after 10 incredibly influential years in the underground scene.

Official statement from El-P

Very sad to see the label die, but no doubt these artists will continue on elsewhere.

Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass (Bossasaurus Remix)

Bossasaurus vs Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass (Remix) from AlwaysHustle.com on Vimeo.

Bossasaurus?  Who?  I don't know.
What I DO know is that my stomach turned at the idea of somebody doing a dancey remix of this song...but hell, this is actually dope!  Whaddya know?  Have some.

FLASHBACK: Weathermen - Left It To Us

Whoooooo!!!  Haven't heard this in a minute.
Just came up on shuffle.  Made me slap my boss and write a hot 16 about it, son!

Felt 2-for-1 Sale

Shit!  About time we got some actual jams.  I was sick of all the behind-the-scenes and interviews...I don't even watch 90% of that stuff.  Just give me the music.

2 new jams from Felt (Slug, Murs & Aesop Rock on them beats) after the J (see that?  "after the J"?  DAMN, I'm cool.)

Yak Ballz - Silver Bullet

Damn, wish I had this pre-halloween.
Oh well . . new Yak is still new Yak!
Have some.

Wait a minute . . .
"City of Cardboard where his neighbors live, like Faux Fur . . ."
Naaaaaaaaaaaaaah...can't be.  I'm not THAT cool (yet).  Ain't nobody reading this shit.

Cage - Eating Its Way Out of Me

Speaking of dope albums that I've been stuck on lately, Cage's Depart From Me is the business. It's a SLIGHTLY different mood than what we've heard from him in the past. A little bit of secure sarcasm has replaced a good portion of the old lost hopelessness . . .for the better.

HOWEVER...I will suggest that you don't make the same mistake I did. I listened to this and Depeche Mode's new album for the first time back-to-back. Yeah. Great way to mess your head up for a minute. It's like the weekend I watched Donnie Darko and Requiem for a Dream consecutively. Mind ain't been right since.

UPDATE: Cage - I Never Knew You

Directed by Sam Witwicky.

Good shit if this is your lane.
I'm still a little surprised that this is the song Cage went with for the first actual "single". I would have bet on something with a little more energy.

[Side note: I'd like to officially induct Cage into the "Artists I Love, But Will Never See Live Because I Can't Deal With Their Fans" Hall of Fame. He joins the likes of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Eminem, M.I.A, any member of The Lox, Justice and many others. Welcome!]

UPDATE: If you're still reading this, then the following news will make you VERY happy...
Cage's 5-track I Never Knew You EP is available now for FREE.

Cage - Nothing Left To Say

Produced by El-P.
Oh man . . .the dreaded "E" word is gonna be used liberally on this one.

Yak Ballz - Spiked Punch

Cardboard City!

Yak Beezy all up in the "Everyone Nose" beat.
Get Yours (get it?).

I wonder if it's better to drop this now that the song has cooled off, or to do it while it's still everyone's jam. Hmm.
Either way...this is dope. Easily the best beat jackin' I've heard over this. Everyone else seems to get tripped up over the drums. Ah well.

YAK!

The Return of Head Automatica

The children gather and cheer . . .Head Automatica's return is upon us.
You have no idea how much time I spent figuring out what clip was best to display the greatness of H.A. . . .first impressions are important, you know. Their first album, Decadence is classic material.

Anyway . . .the point of this post is to share some info. Head Automatica is currently wrapping up their third album, and to get the "comeback" train rollin', they will be playing 3 shows in January:

Jan 8 2009 - Music Hall of Williamsburg Brooklyn, New York

Jan 9 2009 - North Star Bar Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Jan 10 2009 - Great Scott Boston, Massachusetts

I HIGHLY recommend seeing Head Auto live. The band is dope, Daryl Palumbo flips his shit at least 4 times during the set, the PBR and Schafer will flow like the Nile . . .and the women in attendace are going to be heart-stoppingly gorgeous (assiming you're down with the Suicide Girl steez . . .and if you aren't . . .what the hell is wrong with you?!)
