N.E.R.D. - Nothing On You

That's it.
I fucking give up.
This shit it terrible.
N.E.R.D. is finished.
They're the new Black Eyed Peas.  Making music for 17yr old girls to listen to when they drink Smirnoff Ice and debate what they can do with their boyfriends and still claim virginity.

DAMMIT!!!!!

N.E.R.D. - Hyonotize You

[Before listening]
Oooooookay.  Just finding out that this song even exists, or was in the works, and here we are with its live premiere.  I'm nervous.  New N.E.R.D. . .
PRODUCED BY DAFT PUNK
I'm terrified.  What if this sucks??
Do you understand how tremendously important a Neptunes/Daft Punk collaboration is to me?!  It's as ridiculous as "Hey, what if Thierry Henry and Rafa Marquez suddenly joined the Red Bulls?"  What?  That happened?!

Wait...before I press play on this, I need to get my mind's ear in the right place and remember the absolute golden greatness that happened the last time 2 of my mega-favorites got together:
   Daft Punk - Daft Club - 03 - Harder Better Faster Stronger (Neptunes RMX) by Rombo_Rama

OK...feeling better.  Lets do this!

[After listening]

::blank stare::

What the hell was that?
I have officially lost all hope for this album being even remotely good.

N.E.R.D. - Help Me (Live @ MTV UK)

Hmm...alright.
So this song isn't a killer,  but at least this isn't music for brain-dead 19yr olds like the other two songs I keep hearing.  So there's still HOPE!  This might mot be the most disappointing album of all time!

N.E.R.D. - Hot n' Fun (Boys Noize Remix)

It seems that people like this remix so much that No one Ever Really Dies threw together an official video with European tour clips.

Me?  I still loathe the original.  Its very existence make my soul weep in fear of how horrible this album is going to be...BUT, the bassline of this remix is so stupid* that I can ignore alot of those feelings.

* a good thing

Pharrell Attempts to Anger Me

Oh!  Great!  So the new N.E.R.D. album is the musical equivalent of a chick flick flick.
Awesome.  That's just what I wanted.  Dammit.

After the complete disaster of M.I.A.'s new...thing...I need this shit to be dope, or my 2010 is SHOT musically.  Ugh.

The singles already made Nothing sound like it was made for 20yr old girls, but that you for confirming it, Pharrell.  Thanks a heap.

BOATLOAD of N.E.R.D. Remixes!!!

Oh man.  I'm set for the rest of the month.  Just saw the notification that a remix EP of "Hot-n-Fun" came out today . . .then I nearly had a stroke when I saw the names on it.  Sadly, as I am in a bit of a new music frenzy at the moment, I don't have time to check it out.  But there's the Boys Noize remix you just jammed above, plus others from Yeasayer, Hot Chip, Crookers* and more.  This has to be good.

N.E.R.D. Rant

Disclaimer:  I'm allowed to do this because I've been blasting N.E.R.D. through various speakers non-stop since about '01.  Say something bad about No One Ever Really Dies, and I might fight you.

N*E*R*D - Hot-n-Fun (ft. Nelly Furtado) from Jae on Vimeo.

So...you want me to say it?!  Fine, I'll say it!!
This song is kinda whack.  There.  Happy?!
DAMMIT!!!

Is it just me, or does the N.E.R.D. catalog seem to have been released backwards.  Nothing seems like something a MUCH younger group would have released 10 years ago, and it would have lead up to a more complete and less silly album like In Search Of..., now, as the 4th album.  It's like they're in a time warp.  Gah.

N.E.R.D. ft. Nelly Furtado - Hot n' Fun

You thought I was joking when I said I was gonna post WAY too much content in the run-up to this album.  No, sir.  Ma'am*?
Anyway...here's the full, final, CDQ version of what is apparently the first single for the new album.  Supposedly the video is coming on Monday.

*Another non-rhetorical question that no one will answer, because I'm now convinced that all of my readers are conspiratorially not commenting on anything in a deliberate attempt to keep me insane:  Do I even have female readers?

New N.E.R.D. Album, "Nothing" . . .June 15

(Image via BBC/Ice Cream)

I heard Bill Clinton spits a hot 16 on track 5.

New N.E.R.D. right at the start of summer?  Damn right.  Perfect timing.
Prepare yourselves, because nothing sends me into a new music frenzy like new N.E.R.D. or new Kanye.  There are gonna be a thousand posts/rants/hopes/fears/expectations/terrors on this blog leading up to that release...all with a predictable timeline:

I'll hear a song snippet...hate it...blog about it...say I'm afraid of how bad this album is gonna be...repeat x 4-5 songs...album release...I have a lukewarm initial response...a month later I'm in love with it and it's the only album I play in my car all summer.  I promise, that's exactly how this is gonna work.  I know myself quite well.

So let's get it started, shall we?!
I already shared these live clips with you a little while ago.  Now we have a CDQ snippet (I HATE snippets) of "Hot & Fun", and it seems Ms. Nelly Furtado* is involved.  My thoughts:  It's a whatever jam...sober.  Give me either a beach and a bikinified woman, or a dark club, strobe-lighted out...and I can definitely efph with it.

New N.E.R.D. (Live)

"Hot & Fun"

Few words pique my interest like "new N.E.R.D.".  Its right up there with "free rum".
I'm gonna hold out full opinion on this jammie until I hear a more proper version.  It sounds a little hollow, but like it might work under the right circumstances (87 degrees and half sober).  We shall see.

"Party People"

N.E.R.D from Erin Ashley on Vimeo.

Can't tell what I'm supposed to make of this one either...but it does sound a hell of alot like the other one doesn't it??  Yup...and just that quickly, I am afraid of this next album.  Have they shifted into full-time frat boy music??  GAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!

But...truth be told, I didn't like "Everyone Nose" when I first heard it, and if you know me offline, you know that's like superhero theme music to me at this point.

FLASHBACK: N.E.R.D. - Thrasher

YEAH!!!
Makes you wanna punch a dude in the face...then sing a melodic song about it!
I might have to make this my alarm clock jam.  Start the day off right.

Random thought:  Ever notice that Kenna and Pharrell look alot alike?  You think they're really related, but just didn't wanna tell anyone?  I can easily see Kenna doing such a thing, not wanting to be "Pharrell's cousin" his whole career.

Answering The Call of the N.E.R.D.s

Well when you get called out by The Offside Rules, you gotta do what you gotta do...

I'm not gonna lie...
I saw this video this morning at a Hip-Hop blog and didn't even bother watching it once I saw it was from 2008.  In my defense, I had no idea Old Trafford was involved.  That's a Hot Chip x The Roots class world collision that I never would have passed up knowingly.

And while I'm nerding out...
Take note which member of N.E.R.D. got the #10 shirt.  That's right...Chad Hugo.
THE MOST UNDER-VALUED ENTITY IN 00's MUSIC!

And Pharrell (because I assume you're reading this) I forgave you for "Milkshake", but the Beckham lust has to stop.  Immediately.

N.E.R.D. Premieres Studio Version of New Jam . . .on 90210 (and a spur of the moment commentary that no one will read)

::hyperventilating::
The song is called "WTF" or "Radio" depending on who you ask.

I'm right back to being terrified.
Black Eyed Peas, here we come!

N.E.R.D. in 2001-02 = LEGITIMATELY ahead of their time, cutting-edge, genre-smashing, "hey, 2 Black dudes and an Asian can jam this shit too" band making music no one had the balls to attempt to sell, or the flexible fanbase and career stability to pull off.  A perfect storm.  Remember, they were doing this...8 YEARS AGO!

N.E.R.D. in 2010 = Time has caught up, they are now lost in a post-genre soup where what was once unthinkable is now platinum-selling pop.  N.E.R.D. is no longer "different".

The irony:  It was N.E.R.D. that set the table for so much of what us "urban alternative", "blipsters" and "hip-hopsters" are feeling right now.  The worst thing to ever happen to N.E.R.D. was the success of N.E.R.D..  They achieved EXACTLY what they set out to do:  Re-form pop culture without solid color or genre lines...but they did is so effectively, that maybe they're no longer needed.

Regardless . . .No one Ever Really Dies will have a permanent place VERY high on the list of most influential artists for me personally.  They had a tremendous impact on what I listen to, why, how and when.  Even if the next album is a complete shit salad, it won't damage what they've already done.  Not for me anyway.

N.E.R.D. Quartet Buss An Unidentified New Jam

N.E.R.D. with their new lady bit in Kentucky doing some new stuff.  Of course, I need to hear a studio version, but I guess I can be a little less horrified by Rhea's existence.  Maybe.

FLASHBACK: N.E.R.D. ft. Malice - Am I High (Euro Version)

Pardon me, folks.  I'm still going through a little personal shock dealing with this whole "N.E.R.D. adding a chick" thing.  Can you believe In Search of... came out 8 years ago (7 if you weren't up on the synthy Euro-spec original release)?

US version after the jump...

Yoko Ono . . .Fergie . . .Rhea?!

::3 shots of tequila::
So . . . this young lady, Rhea, has been touring with N.E.R.D. . . and . . .it seems . . .
::re-gaining consciousness::
 . . .that she . . .is . . .now . . .a full-time...officiall...member of the group.
::passes out again::
Dear, sweet Xenu, help us.
I'm terrified.

I'm guessing you already know that I am the biggest N.E.R.D. fan on this planet...
I don't even know how to process this information.
A FEMALE VOICE in N.E.R.D.?!
Huh?  That's . ..it's . . .::collapse::

N.E.R.D. ft. Santigold - Popcorn

Awwww shiiiiit.

Wait for it . . .
Wait for it . . .
Wait for it . . .

N.E.R.D. - Laser Gun Carrying

I am so ashamed of myself.
I have not heard this song before today.

Apparently, it's a bonus track on the UK release of Seeing Sounds.
Why it didn't make the album's final cut...who knows. It's better than a full third of what did make it.

N.E.R.D. - Sooner Or Later

Mad poignant, yo.
"It's over! Leave it!"

Ah, I friggin' love this song...but I gotta say that I am REALLY disappointed that they didn't let the last third of the song play out like it deserves. It kills the jam if this video is anyone's first impression. In case this is true for you. I beg you to listen to the complete song. If you don't have the patience, skip to 4:20ish to hear the magic left out of the video.

N.E.R.D. - Sooner or Later (Behind the Scenes)

Sooner Or Later - Behind The Scenes

Oh, joy of joys!!!

The next single/video from Seeing Sounds will be the magnificently epic "Sooner or Later". I can't tell you how many times I hit rewind on this song. I sincerely hope that 1) people catch on to this song, and 2) they let the WHOLE jam finish in the video.
