I'm no journalist, I'm no gossip hack. I'm just here to give you a random collection of the things I love and want to share with my friends who just aren't dorky enough to find it all for themselves.
Enjoy the ride...because gas is expensive and I might have to park my spaceship one day.
And here we go...
After 2.5 listens, I like it. But whenever you see Thom Yorke on camera, do you ever get the feeling that inside, he's laughing at you? Just me? Probably.
Also, Radiohead has actually pushed up the already short-notice release of King of Limbs. If you pre-ordered, it's available now, and you ca also purchase the digital release and download today. Head here(while I do the same).
Radiohead's Kid A album has been getting alot of attention in the last few weeks after topping Pitchfork's Best Albums of the 2000s list, so naturally, I had to spend some quality time with the music. It's been a while. I'm sitting here's now with it in the background. I felt "inspired" after watching that BBC Seven Ages of Rock chapter that focused on British indie.
Anyway...the point is...I really forgot how good this album is. Weather or not its the best album of this decade, or even Radiohead's best album is a debate for another time, and a debate that neither side could come out a winner. "Idioteque" has always stayed in the forefront of my consciousness, and would definitely feature on my own All-Decade list, but I'm hearing "Optimistc" again for the first time in a while, and...it's stunning, isnt's it? It goes into the category of "Perfect Songs". Not necessarily because a song is earth-shatteringly brilliant, but because it's so complete in and of itself. As-is. Nothing needs to be added, removed or altered. It's a rare quality to find in music.
I know some of you are reading this and saying, "Wow, is he REALLY blabbering on about Kid A right now"? But remember, 80% of the fun in this blog (for me, anyway) is that some of you folks have Radiohead's entire catalog momorized in 4 different languages, while some of you have never heard of half the artists I post around here. Good times.
No, it isn't new (unless you haven't gotten your hands on In Rainbows: Disc 2 yet), but this is getting heavy burn in the land of Faux these days. I'm a firm believer that the #1 factor in appreciating any piece of music is timing. The right song has to hit you at the right moment for it to really latch on and sink in.
And to think, this is a BONUS track! What a ridiculously amazing album.
Oh, and since we're already here, check out Thom's "unplugged" version:
You remember this, right? Well, Max Tannone has just finished up 5 more Jay-Z x Radiohead mash-ups for you to impress that eclectic chick down the hall with.
YES! It's exactly what you think it is. DJ (or collective, I'm not sure) Minty Fresh Beats has created a mash-up along the lines of previous mixtapes that mated Jay's words to the sounds of the Beatles, Prince and Coldplay. Admittedly, some songs are better fits than others, but it's definitely a collector's (nerd's) dream.
My bad, I meant to post this weeks ago and I forgot. This was part of the remix contest I mentioned before. It got my vote.
UPDATE: Hold on a sec . . . I love it when I can update shit 4min after I meant to post it 3 weeks ago (don't try to understand that sentence, you'll hurt yourself).
According to Mr. Diplo, the Reckoner remix of his that we've been jammin' all this time was an unfinished demo that sprung a leak. HERE is the finished stuff, which he's calling "v2.0 Diplo in a Trainwreck". Honestly, I like the original alot better. The "new" one gets a little Jersey Shore for my taste.
Yep...it's exactly what the title says. This works surprisingly well.
DJ Earworn has taken to two most remixed songs on the webs (with respect to "Paper Planes"), sat them in a room together with a bottle of strawberry Boone's Farm, and waited for the magic to happen. I like it. Video credit goes to Instamatic.
Radiohead are leaving the remix duties for "Reckoner" up to the masses. All the important bits of the song are available to download on iTunes. From there, any and everyone can create their own mini-masterpiece and upload it to the remix project site where fans can listen and vote on who's got the hotness. It's brought out some decent names already, including Diplo (thaaaaaat shit is the spicy brown mustard!!) and Flying Lotus. Should be interesting.
