Monday Morning Kanye
You know what time it is.
First up is this week's GOOD Friday jam that wasn't supposed to happen (Kanye was pissed about the 2 song leaks last week and said he was gonna put it on hold for the week):
Kanye West ft. Kid Cudi, Pusha T, John Legend, Lloyd Banks & Ryan Leslie - Christian Dior Denim Flow
Not really doing anything for me. Buuuuuut, it's not on the album, so whatever.
And I think this might be the official farewell to Kid CuDi on this blog. I can't take it anymore.
Moving along...
Kanye rocked SNL with "Power" and got the Pusha T assist on "Runaway" later. And you know there was now way he was using that same subway-station-from-Mars performance stage as everyone else. I must say, though...I am VERY VERY VERY disappointed in Kanye for swapping the 2nd verse of "Power". At least it was a decent verse.
It's amazing how much better "Runaway" sounds with the added vocal samples.

John Legend x The Roots: Wake Up!
Wait...what?!
Am I late on this??
You already know The Roots' new album came out on Tuesday, complete with a pair of John Legend appearances. BUT...On September 21, The Roots and John Legend will be releasing a collaborative album, titled Wake Up!. Today was the first I've heard such things. The video above is a live performance of "Hard Times" (a cover jam of some sort), which will appear on the album.
Oh snap.

The Roots ft. John Legend - The Fire
OK(P)...I don't wanna spoil this album for myself, so this is the last leak I'll pay attention to (unless something get the "single" treatment).
June 22!

FLASHBACK: Black Eyed Peas ft. Q-Tip, Cee-Lo, Talib Kweli & John Legend - Like That
2005.
Dammit, I love that song.
It's the only positive contribution BEP has made to music in the Fergie era.
Run that Kweli verse back again, son.

The MASSIVE "Soooo, What Did I Miss?" Post (Pt.2)
OK . . .
Been a reletively busy day in the non-internet world, but I'm ready to get back to the ridiculous task of catching up with a week's worth of music news. Here's Part 1, BTW
Let's go!
True Hip-Hop Stories: Big Daddy Kane
Kane tells the story behind the making of "Ain't No Half-Steppin' ". I'm a geek (and so are you). I love this shit. Where does this song rank All-Time? Top 20? 10?

Exile & DJ Day: D-Train
Oh SNAP! I thought I was the only person under 45 that was still jammin' some D-Train!
These 2 never cease to amaze me. This makes the word "dope" sound small. i need a better adjective. This is the greatest thing I've seen/heard in weeks.

Am I wrong for not really being interested in La Coka Nostra?
Is it the name that's killing me?
I don't know.

There's a new Motown-commissioned MJ/J5 remix album out there. I've listed to about 4-5 jams, none of them are blowing me away, but maybe you'll dig it.

Clipse ft. Pharrell - I'm Good
In a fun bit of coincidence, I heard this while driving home from vacation yesterday.
Where was I at that moment? Just coming off of the Chessapeake bay Bridge & Tunnel. It somehow made me like the song more.
I said to my girl, "This is like watching a lion in his natural habitat". Does that make complete sense? not really. But you got my point, dammit.

A big LOL @ Rolling Stone for naming the dude with the biggest song in the country an "Artist to Watch" for 2009. Way to stay current, boys.

ESSO - Don't Stop
I've already voiced my gripes about the MJ tributes...but supposedly, this album/mixtape was already in production when Mike paseed...so I guess I can rock with it (get it?)

Kooley High - Kooley Is High
Something about this video/song just makes the day better. I definitely approve.

OKAY . . .I'm STILL not caught up, but my head's gonna explode if I absorb any more shit.
Later, peoples.

Busta Rhymes ft. Jamie Foxx, Mary J. Blige, John Legend & Common - Decisions
Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of Aftermath Busta (with some definite exceptions, for sure)...but this is "tough" (c)-Flex.
I'm kinda trying to avoid hearing too much of this album before it comes out, but this one snuck up on me. Good shit.
Have some.
