Amadou & Mariam - Sabali (Miike Snow Remix)
Amadou And Mariam - Sabali (Miike Snow Remix) by hellocolor
Nice to know that the boys of Miike Snow are still alive.
And yes, this song does sound familiar to you. It's been sampled a few times in the last couple years. As you can see above, A&M have a remix collection coming out next month. I'm not gonna front like a I have a big stash of Amadou & Mariam jams in the files, but I will damn sure be keeping an eye out for that Yuksek remix.

Jam of the Week: 5/31-6/6/10
That's two weeks in a row that the Jam of the Week showed up on a Friday.
That's two weeks in a row that the Jam of the Week came from polarizing emcee.
That's two weeks in a row that the Jam of the Week had a central theme of defiance.
Nominees & VotW after the jump...

Miike Snow - Sylvia
New video for the amazing "Sylvia" from the equally amazing self-titled album by Miike Snow.
Now...I know better than to expect anything reasonable from the media, especially music media (hence this blog's existence). But I am honestly floored that Miike Snow isn't cracking ANYONE in "major" press' Top 20 (or even 40) for 2009. I just don't get it. Grizzly Bear and "AnCo" recorded the best shit since Kid A, but Miike Snow isn't Top 40? By what standards? What, did they not use Twitter enough? Not enough drunk sluts with their tits out at shows for them to be relevant? I really don't get it.

Are The "Best of 2009" Posts Even Worthwhile This Year??
After reading this gem of a bloggery from the author that serves as both the Woodward AND Bernstein of my generation, I've come to a sad and stunning realization: A "Best of 2009" post (a.k.a. The Jammie Awards in these parts) isn't even worth doing this year. Music was EXTRA whack! Pick a genre, pick a scene, pick a movement, they were all generally dry as hell. Don't believe me? Take a quick stroll through the Most Played songs on your iTunes. How much of it is from 2009?
I'll wait.
See?!
It all shit. Everything you bought/downloaded in 2009 was something that you were madly in love with for about a month, then stopped listening to and eventually forgot you owned, leading to the inevitable "Ohhh YEAH, I forgot I had this!" moment when one of the tracks come up in shuffle. How sad.
Even worse, it reminds me how much fun I had sitting at this same desk and haphazardly throwing together my big post for the 2008 Jammie Awards last December. After sitting here, and scrolling throuh my own music stash, and looking through the blog archives for the last 10+ months...I honestly can't come up with enough albums or songs in 2009 that made a REALLY lasting impression on me. Music that I know I'll still be listening to in 5yrs. It just didn't happen.
To take it even further, I can only think of ONE album this year that's even worthy of "Best of.." praise: Miike Snow. That's it. That's the list. A one-album competition for Album of the Year. How sad.

Miike Snow - Black & Blue (Savage Skulls Remix)
No worries, that title is very misleading.
There is, in fact, no savagery involved with this remix.
Side note: This is walking away with album of the year at this point, right? Am I forgetting anything?
Bonus question: How many babies in Brooklyn were named Miike this summer? All of them? 90%? And were all the girls named Sylvia?

Miike Snow - Animal (Mark Ronson Version)
Bet you didn't see that one coming, did ya?! This is the B-side to the "Black and Blue" single over in the (not so) United (not really a) Kingdom. Cool points to Ronson for going with "Version" instead of "Remix". This is extra right, but none of the remixes efph with the Crookers remix yet.
(Why the Wale jam starts at the end is beyond me...just ignore the last 4sec)
Miike Snow - Black and Blue
WTF is a "UK single", gentlemen?
As if we can't see the video here, pffff.

Miike Snow - Animal
I'm dumb. I saw stuff about this video popping up a few days ago, but I ignored it because I thought I had seen/posted it already. Seeing as I am now an old man, I was confusing this video for the "Burial" video that debuted a couple of weeks ago. Whoops.
On another note...this is an utterly fantastic song and all that...but how whack was the music this summer that "Animal" is far and away the most memorable thing I'll take away from this season. Kinda sad, ain't it. Here's looking at you, Autumn.
...and in about 2 months, I'll recover from SF dropping the bomb that the boys of Miike Snow actually wrote Britney's "Toxic". I had an aneurysm immediately after reading that.

Miike Snow - Burial
There's a pleasant serendipity to finding new music videos on soccer blogs.
By my usual standards of getting an album, taking 2-3 weeks before I ever listen to it, jammin' the efph out of it for a month and then getting bored, moving on and forgetting I have it . . .Miike Snow have gotten some pretty heavy mileage out of my car stereo this spring/summer.
I like this video. It's like some random Miike Snow apostle has returned home (to a place I will not difinitively call India, for fear of racialism charges) after some long voyage to harness the power of mid-tempo, indie jams. It's like the Arc of the Covenant, without the negative side effects.

Miike Snow
Shout to SF for the heads up.
I still don't know who "2 I's" Miike Snow is (and apparently, something about his name makes me too lazy to do my usual interwebs searching), but the man has taste. A Crookers remix, a DJ Mehdi remix and a Jackelope logo? I'm sold.
::instant 27min blog time warp::
OK . . .laziness has past. I've been to The Space. I am officially down with Miike Snow...but I'm even more confused, because THEY list 3 members, and none of them are named Miike. Whatever. It's Thursday (I think), and I've already checked out mentally.
