HEY, RAPPERS / PRODUCERS!!!
Listen...
I know a handful of you are reading this right now.
I have no talent whatsoever, but I know a potentially amazing song when I hear one.
If the right combination of producer and emcee got together and sampled "Rope of Sand" by Jamie Lidell, I am 100% certain that it would be a classic. Can't you just hear a Joe Budden Mood Muzik type song coming out of this? The melodies, the strings, the vocal samples you could pull from it...all of it.
Jamie Lidell - Rope Of Sand by SoulDeep
Someone PLEASE sample this song and make it happen.
I need to hear it. The world needs to hear it.

Jamie Lidell - Compass (tUnE-yArDa Remix)
Jamie Lidell - Compass (Tuneyards Remix) by Warp Records
Not a song that I would have expected to get a remix, but this works pretty well.

Jam of the Week: 5/31-6/6/10
That's two weeks in a row that the Jam of the Week showed up on a Friday.
That's two weeks in a row that the Jam of the Week came from polarizing emcee.
That's two weeks in a row that the Jam of the Week had a central theme of defiance.
Nominees & VotW after the jump...

Jamie Lidell - The Ring
This, I like.
Clearly, Mr. Lidell was a Stevie Wonder fan growing up.
Any Stevie fan is a friend of mine.

REPOST: Jamie Lidell - Rope of Sand
Why?
Because this is the best song from someone I've never heard of in a very long time, and I think more folks should be up on Jamie Lidell
...and because there's been almost nothing worth talking about since Friday afternoon, and I can't have people thinking I'm dead. At least not until I pull a Red Foxx an fake my death to avoid debt collectors.

Jamie Lidell - Rope of Sand
I have no idea who this guy is, but I know a great song when I hear it.
What's that? A 7.9 album review on Pitchfork? That's all I need to justify interest!
