Sade ft. Jay-Z - The Moon & The Sky (Remix)

With this song, produced by 40, a.k.a. the reason Drake exists, Mr. Carter lands the first ever official rapper feature on a Sade jam.  Thankfully he took it seriously and dropped a nice verse.  And applaud Sade for giving him more than 8 bars just to say she did it.

Kanye West ft. Jay-Z & Nicki Minaj - Monster (Teachers Remix)

   Monster (Teachers remix) by Teachers

I've heard some awful remixes of this song, so I kinda gave up hope...but this one is kinda dope.  Very different vibe from the original, but I'd actually give this some replay.

Kanye West x Jay-Z - H.A.M.

Kanye West x Jay-Z-HAM by cultofhypsters

::Blank Stare::

Here's my guess: There's a heavy layer of irony slathered on top of this shit.
They don't want us to take this at face value do they?
I mean...it couldn't really be what it seems, right?

::Just finished 3rd listen::

OK...considering who Kanye is, and who Jay has become in the last few years, I'm gonna run with the "ironic" angle.  On the surface, this is one of the worst songs either artist has ever recorded.  By a longshot.  BUT, both of these men (rightfully) consider themselves to be the leaders of the genre, so stepping their own shit down to Wocka-Flockian levels has to have some sort of double meaning.  A sort of "You dummies can't see us when we're up here, so we'll play down on your level and make a better song in your style than you could ever make for yourself".  Right?

Is that the case, or am I protecting myself as fan and absorbing the blow from what's nothing more than just a bad song?  I choose the former.

OR better yet...is the the moment that both Kanye AND Jay-Z have reached Advanced status?!

Dr. Dre ft. Eminem, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Stat Quo and Ca$his - Syllables

   Eminem x Dr. Dre x Jay Z x 50 Cent { Syllables } [dirty/noDj] by Dj EZ' NiG

Maybe its because I'm from NJ, but I honestly couldn't care less if Dextox is ever released.  I've never been a big fan of Dre's beats, and more than anything, I could never understand how someone who's made millions off of ghost-written rhymes and beats has been given icon/pioneer status in Hip-Hop folklore*.

That said...I love the concept of this song.  Could have been a classic without the last two dudes.

UPDATE:  Now word is creeping out that this was actually recorded a few years ago.  Wow.

* If you want to counter that with a "What about Diddy?" argument, go ahead.  But if you take Diddy seriously as an emcee/producer...then I don't know what to tell you.

Kanye West & Jay-Z ft. Elly Jackson (La Roux) - That's My Bitch

Wow.
Sound quality sounds unfinished . . .they need to get back in the studio and finish this ASAP.  I'm seeing in some places that Q-Tip did that beat.  I love it.  It sounds like a futuristic version of something from the original House Party soundtrack.  Hopefully, this gets wrapped up for Watch the Throne (Thrown?).

UPDATE:  The Copywrite Cops are out HEAVY for this track, so it's gonna be gone soon.  Take this as a sign that it will be on the album.

Jay-Z - 99 Problems (The Prodigy Remix)

Why this is happening in 2010 is a mystery written in invisible ink on the the whispers of a dream in the subconscious of Amelia Earhart's ghost.

Jay Electronica ft. Jay-Z & The Dream - Shiny Suit Theory

Jay Electronica featuring Jay-Z, The-Dream & Charlotte Gainsbourg - Shiny Suit Theory by Hypetrak

Well that didn't take long.
Very new experience to actually get a new Jay Electronica jam before you expect it.
Maybe having a boss will pay off for all of us.

The two of them actually fit very well on a track together.

Jay Electronica to Roc Nation

Jay Electronica -The Announcement by TempoClash

Of course, the biggest news of the weekend was the semi-surprising and potentially monumental announcement that the underground's favorite, Jay Electronica has signed a deal with Jay-Z's Roc Nation Label.

If there's one thing fans of independent music love, its an Art vs. Commerce debate, and this signing should keep EVERYONE in Hip-Hop, from the back-packers to the ballers and everyone in between arguing for the rest of the year.  To me, there's only one aspect of this that merits discussion:  freedom.  Now that he's on a major label, with a major budget, big marketing dollars and the biggest artist co-sign that he could hope for, will Jay Electronica have the freedom to record whatever he's feeling at the moment, or will there be pressure to create hit records?  We've seen Jay-Z leaning towards the more experimental in recent projects.  Is this signing the reflection of those changes?  Is Roc Nation willing to sacrifice sales if it means gaining the reputation of being a home for true artists?  We'll see.

And of course, a new song has come from this union.  Stay tuned for "Shiny Suit Theory" with both Jay's Charlotte Gainsbourg and The Dream.

Kanye West ft. Pete Rock, Jay-Z, Charlie Wilson & Kid CuDi - The Joy

Getting a late start this morning, but there's alot coming up today...

Kanye West - The Joy (feat. Pete Rock, Jay-Z, Charlie Wilson, Curtis Mayfield & Kid Cudi) by sametDemir
G.O.O.D. Monday (around here, anyway).
Pete Rock at his Pete Rockiest on this one.
We learned last week that the Kanye/Jay-Z EP, Watch the Throne Thrown is now scheduled to be a full album.  I wonder if this is/was supposed to appear on it.

Big L x Jay-Z: Stretch Armstrong & Bobitto Show, Feb '95

Big L & Jay-Z - Freestyle On Stretch & Bobbito Show (Full) by pixelsamurai
This was on one of those ooooold ass mixtapes that you had in middle/high school, but now there's a longer recording out there.

Hip-Hop Nerds...how's your day going?!

And since we're going in that direction, take these 2 with you:
Big L ft. Lord Finese, Jay-Z & Y.U. - Da Graveyard

Kanye West ft. RZA, Jay-Z, Pusha T, Swizz Beatz & Cyhi The Prince - So Appalled

So Appalled by Kanye West by asingh9690
Some quick notes:
1.  Yes, you've heard this title and Kanye verse before
2.  I guess this puts an end to all the Clipse/Jay-Z subliminal beef rumors
3.  Cyhi signs to a fancy label like Kanye's and switches from "Da Prince" to "The Prince".  VERY funny.

Some nasty one-liners on this one.  Oddly enough, this time around its Kanye with the sub-par bars that are dragging down the rest of the song.  Anyone else get the feeling that Mr. Carter is about 2-3 weeks away from giving a few people the "Takeover" treatment?

Other gigantic news:  As you know by now, there is a Kanye West/Jay-Z EP on the way called Watch The Throne (Thrown being seen as well).  Well, this weekend 'Ye told the world that not only will we be getting production from him on the project, but we can also expect work from Madlib, Pete Rock and Q-Tip . . .let that marinate for a minute.

Green Lantern x Jay-Z x Chris Martin - Most Kingz

Yes, you've heard those verses before.  They're from '06 when Jay was on Flex's show as Kingdom Come was about to come out.  Remember, Green Lantern was Jay's tour DJ at the time.

This is on the same GL mixtape as the Nas joint I posted earlier.

VERY BIG Kanye West News!

THIS is how you start a Saturday!!
Some big, big news from Mr. West to kick off the weekend:

1.  Calling it "G.O.O.D. Fridays", Kanye announced that either he or someone from the his label's very potent roster (which recently added the Clipse's Pusha T and Cyhi Da Prince) will be releasing new music every Friday from now until Christmas.  Love it!  Very much waiting for the first Pusha/Kanye joint.

2.  Kanye also announced that he will be releasing a 5-song EP with...Jay-Z...enitiled, Watch The Throne.  The first song, I assume, was the "Power" remix.  Song #2 is (literally and figuratively) "Monster" with Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj and Bon Iver.  Yeah, you read that right.  Shit bangs kinda tough.

2 Mashup Projects That Sound Great In Theory. However . . .

Well . . .
Both of these sound dope when you first think about it, but once you actually press play...ehhhhhh.
You might like 'em more than I did, so here you go:

First up, DJ O-Face (really, dude?) smashes together Jay-Z ans Sleigh Bells:

DJ O-Face Presents: Jay Bells (Jay-Z vs. Sleigh Bells) by Hypetrak

Next up, DJ Bassmeister (wow) throws Nas together with some Nosaj Thing tracks:
DJ Bassmeister - NaSaj Thing by Hypetrak

Kanye West ft. Jay-Z & Swizz Beatz - Power (Remix)

Kanye West - Power Remix (Feat. Jay-Z & Swizz Beatz) by Nialler9

Hmmm.  Interesting.
To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed by the first half of this.  Jay's verse was extra regular and Kanye's wasn't too sharp either...and all the extras thrown over the music were a bit messy.

. . .but once Swizzie showed up?  Shiiiiiiit.
THAT'S what this whole remix should have been.  He flipped that sample somethin' terrible, and 'Ye responded accordingly.

Rick Ross ft. Jay-Z - Free Mason

Now....I'm sure you can assume how i feel about Rick Rawse Ross and everything he's ever recorded....but this isn't about him.  It's about the nasty verse that Jay dropped on this thing.

Jay-Z ft. Lil' Wayne - Summer In Brooklyn (Cookin Soul Remix)

What happens when you smash together Jay-Z, Wayne, Quincy Jones, and the Helvicta font.

And while we're here...you know I had to give you some of this, right?

Dr. Dre ft. Jay-Z - Under Pressure

BEFORE PLAYING:  Call me a pessimist, but this can't be good right?  This is 2 "greats" (I've never been a Dre fan) who have both lost their fastballs, per se.  I'm expecting a droning Dre beat and verses from each with alot of "respect your elders" talk that we've been hearing from both of them for the last decade.  Let's see.

AFTER LISTENING:  Oh, there's no way this is a finished song...but I'm in no hurry to hear the finished song.  Meh.

M.I.A. ft. Jay-Z - XXXO (Remix)

I still don't like this song too much.
And MIA is really doing herself no favers on the prono run fro this album.
Sheesh.

Jay's verse is...ehh.

Jay-Z - Ultra

This really feels half-baked.
Supposedly this is a reference track for Diddy's upcoming Last Train to Paris fiasco...so don't get too worked up one way or the other
